Greenlands Week – 5/6 September

As part of our celebration of Greenlands Week this week, there are a number of environmental themed activities led by the Environment Prefects and Prefect body.

Thursday 5 September: Redlands will be hosting a school community screening of 2040 at the Orpheum Cinema at 6.00pm. All proceeds from this event go towards environmental initiatives at Redlands. Bookings can be made through TryBooking.

Friday 6 September: The Secondary School will be holding a mufti day with a gold coin donation (funds raised going to GCF). Students may wear green or animal themed attire on the day. All proceeds will go to the Giraffe Conservation Program at Taronga Zoo.

Interesting Article of the Week

PLEASE READ

This week I have chosen an article that the students are also reading during Tutor Time, on the benefits of getting a casual job as a teenager. The article lists six benefits for teenagers: earning money, learning new skills, gaining work experience, learning more about what kind of career you want, meeting new people and gaining independence. Having two children of my own who have worked their way through High School, and one who is about to start a job, the benefit for us parents also is reducing our expenses by not needing to pay pocket money anymore.

Athletics Student Achievements

Redlands Track and Field had their second ISA/CAS/GPS Invitational Carnival this week at E.S Marks, Randwick. There was a great turnout by the entire team and congratulations go to the following Yr 9 students for their strong participation: Ruby Kelly, Shaun Patrick and Lauren Smith. Best of luck to all students for the ISA Carnival next Tuesday.

Pastoral Care Program

This week students are learning how to manage their time if they want to work in a casual job to ensure it doesn’t impact their school work. They are reading an article and working through modules on the Dr Prue Salter website ‘Managing Part-Time Jobs’. Social Awareness Program

Most students are now choosing an organisation whose primary goal is to reduce the inequality faced by refugees, with the aim to produce a seven minute presentation on areas such as what its main purpose is and examples of recent activities the organisation has done to help address the inequality faced by refugees.

I hope you have a wonderful week.
