Football
Three of the girls Football teams featured in the Finals at Blacktown over the weekend. The Inter A Girls were up first against the minor premiers, Barker. Our girls got off to a strong start and despite a great shot on goal, we were unable to convert. Barker then displayed some great passages of play which saw two quick goals for them, finishing the game with a 3-0 win. Our girls should be very proud of their efforts against a very strong Barker side.
The 2nds Girls were up next and only had 12 players ready to take the field due to the clash with the State Snowsports Championships. Off to a great start, Olivia Hatch scored the first goal of the match as Redlands dominated the possession. Unfortunately, the lack of substitutes had players covering a lot of ground in the hot conditions. As the game wore on, Barker started to see more of the ball and mid-way through the second half Barker saw their first goal. With less than ten minutes to go, Barker were able to score a second goal to end the game 2-1. Well done to our girls who, for the majority of the game, appeared to be the stronger team.
The 1sts Girls were the final match of the day in what would be a tough game against a very skilled Barker team. The game was fiercely competitive from the kick-off seeing two evenly matched teams fighting for possession. At the half time whistle, the score was 0-0. Our girls regrouped and started the second half clearly looking like the stronger team, creating many scoring opportunities but being unable to convert. The final whistle sounded with the game tied at 0-0 and we headed into extra time. At the end of the extra time, the score was still 0-0 which led to a penalty shoot-out. After the first three players from each team, Barker was up 3-2. We needed to score or Barker would take out the game. We converted and as it was tied 3-3, Barker’s next player stepped up. A great save from Goalkeeper Jasmine Black saw our next chance to win the game. The ball went straight into the back of the net to give Redlands the 1sts Girls Football Championship trophy. A great end to a very exciting game and an excellent season for 1sts Girls Football.
Congratulations to the entire Girls Football program for winning the overall Girls Football Shield for 2019.
Please book your tickets to the End of Season Football Presentation. The presentation evening will be held at Dee Why RSL on Friday 6 September, 6.30pm arrival for 7.00pm start.

Hockey
Last weekend saw the conclusion to the Hockey season with both the Girls 2nds and 3rds winning their respective ISA Division Grand Finals.
Our 2nds won their Grand Final last Saturday 5-0 against Oxley. The girls played their best game for the season, with a lot of very good hockey on turf. The girls played very well, combining with an all round outstanding team performance.
The mighty 3rds had a nail biting Grand Final against CCGS, all of their training over the season led up to this one game! Every single girl fought hard and played to win, two early goals were scored in the first half. The second half was an intense fight to stay on top, our defence has never looked so strong. The game finished with a sensational win 2-0.
It has been an outstanding season and the girls are extremely deserving of their premiership win!

Netball
Last weekend brought a premature end to our NSNA Competition, with some close Semi Final losses meaning our teams did not progress through to the Preliminary Finals. Our 9A team unfortunately went down to Monte, but have shown great improvement throughout the year in what has been a very strong 15A competition. The Yr 9C team were also out to progress to the next stage with the majority of this team playing Finals the last few years at NSNA. They were out to dominate early against Monte with the scores being close for the first three quarters. The final quarter saw both teams going score for score which was going to be a tough finish, unfortunately Monte got the better of the girls late in the 4th quarter and took the match. Our 8B team played Maccabi in their Semi Final, a team who they had beaten once previously after they had been re-graded. This was a tightly contested match between both sides and proved to be a real nail biter coming down to the last quarter again, with Maccabi holding a tight lead managing to take the match 18 – 23. Our 7Ds were up against SGHS, splitting the two matches during the regular season with one win and one loss. This Semi Final was going to be a tight contest, the girls were focused from the outset, moving the ball up the court well to keep the game close for the 1st quarter. Unfortunately SGHS stepped up a gear in the 2nd quarter and our girls tried to hold them, trying to claw back, this was not to be with the girls eventually going down by nine.
Our Senior 4th had a tough Grand Final match against an Oakhill team who had been the top of the table all year. Oakhill managed to get a lead of around nine during the 2nd quarter and, after some tough half-time words, the girls came out firing in the 3rd quarter scoring the first five goals to bring the lead back to four which set up for an exciting end. Unfortunately Oakhill then stepped up a level which proved to be the difference.
The Redland Netball Presentation Dinner will be held on Thursday 12 September at Norths Leagues Club.
