Year 12

Greenlands Week – 5/6 September

As part of our celebration of Greenlands Week in Week 7, there are a number of environmental themed activities led by the Environment Prefects and Prefect body.

Thursday 5 September: Redlands will be hosting a school community screening of 2040 at the Orpheum Cinema at 6.00pm. All proceeds from this event go towards environmental initiatives at Redlands. Bookings can be made through TryBooking.

Friday 6 September: The Secondary School will be holding a mufti day with a gold coin donation (funds raised going to GCF). Students may wear green or animal themed attire on the day. All proceeds will go to the Giraffe Conservation Program at Taronga Zoo.

Final Weeks

During our Year Meeting earlier this week, all the students were reminded of the importance for them to make the most of the final weeks at school by working closely with their teachers and maximising their learning experiences. As parents, you can continue to encourage your son or daughter to try and maintain a healthy diet, get good sleep and take some regular exercise, as this will aid in their focus. Above all, I hope the students enjoy their last weeks of school and finish on a high note knowing they have tried to do their very best.

News

Congratulations to our musicians for participating in the 2019 Yr 12 Higher School Certificate and International Baccalaureate Music Showcase held on Monday this week. This concert was the final opportunity for students to present their repertoire, prior to assessment by NSW Education Standards Authority and as part of the recording process for submission to the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

The Yrs 3- 12 Visual Arts Exhibition was open from Tuesday to Thursday this week, with opening night on Wednesday. I popped in to see the work of our art students and it’s incredible!

While I am writing this Note Day, the HSC Drama students are doing their final performance at the Adams Centre and the IB Dance students are filming their Dance component in Parkes Hall. They have been working diligently and passionately on preparing their pieces for performance. I hope and trust it all goes well.

A big thank you to all parents supporting students through this stressful period with your time and emotional investment.

Division 1 ISA Girls Champions

Last Saturday,  Rebecca Fauby, Alice MacDonald, Anika Misir, Anika Ramasamy, Sydney Stuckman and their team won the Division 1 ISA Football Girls Championship. Their fitness, skills, determination and passion to play for our school was incredible to watch. This is a historic moment, not only because it is the first time that the girls triumphed in the finals, but also the first time Redlands won the overall Girls Championship Shield for all age groups in Girls Football.

Study Skills with Dr Prue Salter

On Monday 2 September, all Yr 12 students will attend The Year 12 Countdown with Dr Prue Salter from 9.00-10.15am in Redlands Hall. This is a compulsory workshop that focuses on students moving towards achieving their personal best in a stress-free way through their last months of school. Students will need to bring a pen and a highlighter to the workshop.

Yr 12 House Morning Tea

Through the coming weeks, the Heads of House have organised special morning teas during Tutor Time for Yr 12 students to celebrate their time together as a House over their years at Redlands. These morning teas will be an opportunity for students to relax, reflect on their progress so far and share memories of fun times at Carnivals, Gala Arts, and other House events.
