Year 8
Greenlands Week
In Week 7 the Environment Prefects along with the Perfect body will be coordinating Greenlands Week – a week dedicated to the environment. There will be a number of activities focused on the environment and human impact. Tuesday 3 September will be a mufti day. With a small donation (funds raised going to GCF), students can wear their favourite animal print. On Thursday 5 September, Redlands will be hosting a school community screening of 2040 at the Orpheum Cinema at 6.00pm. All proceeds from this event go towards environmental initiatives at Redlands. Bookings can be made through TryBooking.

Uniform
Thank you to all who maintain a high standard of uniform. There are a few issues needing attention:
- Boys: Hair must be cut away from eyes, ears and collar. Grey ankle socks.
- Girls: No jewellery is allowed other than one pair of plain gold or silver studs in ear lobes. Skirt hems must fall to the knee when standing.
Lunch detentions will be issued for uniform infringements and jewellery will be confiscated. Boys hair is required to be cut by Monday next week, Week 5.
Technology at School
Students have been reminded of the School’s ICT Student Responsible User Guidelines and Technology and Mobile Phone Usage Policy (Student Planner, p26-27). Your support with promoting guidelines and school policies is appreciated.

eSafety Parents and Carers provides tips and advice on helping your child have a safe and enjoyable experience online. Some key areas the website tackles:
- The Big Issues: help your child deal with the big issues in online safety, such as cyberbillying, online pornography, sending nudes and sexting, time online, gaming and unwanted contact.
- Skills & Advice: what parents and carers need to know, including online safety basics, good habits start young, the hard-to-have conversations and privacy and your child.
The website also provides a valuable downloadable guide which offers practical skills and advice about how to tackle the big issues.
Pastoral Care – Optimism and Positivity
This week in Pastoral Care, Tutor Groups are building on their emotional awareness and self-regulation by exploring optimism and positivity. Often, we are predisposed to see the worst in a given situation. Students might assume that they’ll fail the next assessment, embarrass themselves in the presentation, or come last in the race. While this can often come from a place of self-preservation and wanting to avoid disappointment, it can also result in missing out on great opportunities for challenge and growth, while impacting self esteem through negative self-talk. Reminding ourselves to monitor our thinking, assess each situation on its merits, rather than the emotions we are feeling, and being open to the power of ‘yes’, may just help us to find talents and strengths that we otherwise would never have known were there.
