Year 8

Welcome Back

I welcome back our Yr 8 students from their holidays and hope that they are returning refreshed and rejuvenated. A reminder that students are now in their Winter uniform, and that blazers are a mandatory part of the uniform during Terms 2-3.

Holiday Activities

A number of our students had a very busy break indeed, with students travelling on the Japan and China trips. I hope that these students had a wonderful experience and that this enriched their understanding of the culture and language of these countries. It was wonderful to see some photos and videos of Yr 8 students on these trips during our staff meeting at the beginning of this week.

Ella Delaney, Zac Nisbet and Ben Harrington spent time in the Hunter Valley over the holidays mentoring students from Scone Grammar School on sailing, rigging and racing. We thank these students for this service to their sport!

ANZAC Service

On Tuesday, the Secondary School had our annual ANZAC Service in Dunnet Hall. This was a lovely occasion of reflection and commemoration, and our guest speaker was a Yr 8 parent, Lieutenant Colonel Craig Delaney. Lieutenant Colonel Delaney spoke about his own experience as a soldier, and the way in which the values of the ANZACS, as well as the values of the Australian Defence Force more generally, are not only applicable to history and to the military, but to the everyday lives of our students. The values of loyalty, integrity, courage and teamwork are exactly the values Redlands tries to instill in our students, and they are as applicable now to students in class, on the sporting field, or at home, as they were for the ANZACs a century ago.

22nd Redlands Parents’ Art Prize and Cocktails

Thursday 10 May at 6.30pm, National Art School
View and experience the professional contemporary artworks while enjoying cocktails with other Redlands parents. Drinks and canapés will be served during the evening and return transport is possible to book as parking is limited around the venue.
