2020 Travel Opportunities for Yr 11
This week we held a parent and student session to introduce the trips available for Yr 11 students in 2020.
Throughout Secondary School, Redlands students have an opportunity to participate in a range of travel experiences that provide opportunities to develop an appreciation for the world around them, have opportunities to make positive contributions through learning about and from others, as well as making first hand connections between theoretical learning and real world application. These programs enable students to participate in projects that are identified by local communities, learning alongside local people.
In 2020 Yr 11 students will be able to choose between our annual trip to Cambodia to continue our support of M’Lop Tapang and experience the exhilarating culture of this tumultuous country. Or they could undertake an ecologically focussed and student centred expedition to Costa Rica. Both of these experiences provide challenge and adventure.
Stay tuned for further information about the other exciting travel programs happening in 2020 for Yr 9 and 10 students to consider later in the year.
Our 2019 students travelling to Fiji in the next school holidays have also met this week to reflect on their planning, anticipate and prepare for the trip and consider our expectations around responsible travel.
Jeans for Genes Day
Thank you to all of the students in both the Junior and Secondary Schools who wore denim in support of the Children’s Medical Research Institute We raised over $1700 to support their ongoing research programs.
Change Makers
Yr 11 students have been meeting on a regular basis to explore some of the challenging and topical social issues. We have developed a method of exploring these issues from a wide range of stakeholder perspectives, trying to delve into the ideas and develop our own individual position so that we can engage in the social debate. Our current issue under examination is Climate Change and we will be exploring, economic, scientific, social and community perspectives over the coming weeks.
Young People’s Plan for the Planet (ANU)
This is another Cocurricular group meeting on a weekly basis, ably led by two of our Service and Environment Prefects, Lachlan van der Plijm and Ben Piro. This group of Yr 10 and 11 students are examining how NSW measures up against the UN Sustainable Development Goals and considering what actions our State Government could take to ensure a sustainable future. We are collaborating with other student teams around the country.
