New Learning Hub Update

Our new Head Contractors, Buildcorp, are making steady progress on the construction of the New Learning Hub. Following site establishment, they have completed the preparation for the Level 2 concrete pour which will be undertaken during the school holiday period, weather permitting.

At this stage, the project remains on target for the structural work to be completed by the end of this year, with the internal fitout scheduled for the first half of next year, enabling occupation by students at the start of Term 3 next year.

If you have any questions or comments about the New Learning Hub construction, please feel free to get in touch with us at masterplan@redlands.nsw.edu.au.

Final Week of Term 2

On Tuesday the weather was very kind and shone upon the annual Secondary School Athletics Carnival. There was a wonderful spirit among all the students who competed for their Houses. Congratulations to Dumolo which recorded their third successive win in this Carnival. Most students competed in a number of events and many were happily tired at the end of the day.

Four records were broken on the day, three of which had stood for more than 20 years. Alexandra York (Yr 11) broke two long-standing records, running a time of 1:01:81 for the Intermediate Girls 400m, breaking the record set in 1994; and then cheered on by a crowd of students and staff, she recorded 1.75m for the Intermediate Girls High Jump, eclipsing the record set in 1997 by 5cm. Monique Pascoe broke the Senior Girls Shot Put record, set in 1977, with a Personal Best throw of 10.35m. Emma McMahon (Yr 10) broke her own record, set last year for the 1500m Intermediate Girls, clipping 4 seconds off that record with a time of 5:00:54.

Thank you to all the Secondary School staff who helped in the organisation of the day, to our own staff who coach our athletes and also a number of external coaches who were also present, lending their expertise and encouragement to our athletes. The Redlands ISA team will be chosen from the competitors and it looks promising for another good year by our top athletes who will represent Redlands at the ISA Carnival in Term 3.

On Thursday it was a joy to listen to the singing of our youngest students as they performed for each other and for their teachers in Dunnet Hall. Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 3 sang their hearts out as they proudly showed their singing talents, while Year 2 joined them in applauding all the performances. Several of our youngest choirs sang beautifully and it was a wonderful showcase of the fine work that our Music teachers do with the children. I also enjoyed the reflections posted outside the Preparatory School from Kindergarten children who have been attending Bush School once a week this term.

I also wish to congratulate our young Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy dancers who competed in the Sydney Eisteddfod on the Opera House stage last weekend. Our Junior Jazz Performance Group won the Primary School Jazz/Musical Theatre/Hip Hop category and our Junior Ballet Performance Group were awarded Highly Commended. Thank you to all of the Dance teachers, other staff and parents who supported the dancers in these wonderful achievements.

The Year 12 students have had a very busy term and will conclude the term this Friday evening with their Formal.

Finally, I wish all families a restful break over the holiday period and look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday 23 July.

We remain concerned about the behaviour of some parents and students in the area around Hampden Avenue and Murdoch Street at drop-off and pickup times. In particular, children running across Hampden Avenue or darting in between double parked cars to cross the road. Please take care in this area; drivers are asked to obey all road rules and street signage and keep the safety of children front of mind over convenience.
