Junior Sport

Queens Birthday Long weekend.

There are no matches this weekend due the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. Training will resume on Wednesday morning next week and matches are as scheduled for weekends until the holidays.

AFL

Our AFL boys went down courageously against Newington last week and showed some real fight to stay in a tough contest against a strong opponent. The game finished with Redlands 17 points down and attacking for the best part of the last quarter without being able to add points. The regraded boys AFL draw has been announced and was emailed to parents, it is also available via Redlands Pulse.

Girls AFL will be available for students from Yrs 5 and 6 during Term 3. There are still spots for players available. Girls interested in playing AFL matches on Saturday mornings in Term 3 should sign up in the Sports Office ASAP. Girls looking to make a head start on their skills for Term 3 are welcome to join the Friday morning skills sessions before school on the Oval

Netball

Our netballers have a well earned rest this week with no matches due to the long weekend

It’s been great to see so many students utilising the before school sessions. Despite the cold and wet weather today, there were 30 plus girls bright and early for Leonie Stewarts skills session.

Redlands 13 continued on their winning ways, earning a promotion to A grade after being the dominant force in their B grade competition so far this season.

Redlands 15 joined the winners circle last week and farewelled outgoing coach Deni in fine style, all the pieces clicking together nicely in what will be a turnaround game for their season (pictured at top).

Redlands 17 and 18 battled in very tight contests to come up with draws last weekend. It’s a sure sign that we’re playing well and improving when we are involved in such tight matches.

Our Net Set Go Girls continue to impress. For Yr 3 girls, Net Set Go is a great pathway for learning Netball and our girls have displayed teamwork and commitment. Coach Erin is very enthusiastic about the prospect for this young group.

NSNA have regraded the draws which has an impact on a number of our teams. Please keep an eye out for email advice from Ms Eliis with all the important information about regrading for teams.

Hockey

Our Hockey girls were untouchable last weekend showing amazing teamwork to take a 3-1 victory over Queenwood. The Yr 6 girls in this team are so generous in their effort and praise towards younger players and are real shining lights of the way that year’s students embrace and can be strong leaders across the School. Not only are they playing great team based Hockey, but their willingness to share knowledge, understanding and experience is a true benefit to the younger girls coming through.

CIS Rugby Triallists

Toby Luce and Oscar d’Almeida flew the Redlands Rugby flag last week at the CIS Primary Rugby trials. Both boys are involved in our rep Rugby Sevens program and club and district level Rugby outside of school, and did the Redlands Rugby community proud with their honest hardworking effort at trials. Despite neither boy making the final 20, both drew comments and commendations from the range of selectors who were impressed with Oscar’s bruising defence and commitment to the breakdown, whilst Toby only narrowly missed selection after featuring as a hooker in the Possibles v Probables matches.

Winter Before School Training Schedule

For all trainings on the Junior School Oval, please use your own discretion in extreme rain and weather situations. Often parents and students will have left home to attend before we can make a realistic judgement on the weather. If there is no danger of lightning, nor heavy rain which would soak anyone training outdoors, our aim is to go ahead and run the session. Coaches and/or staff will be in attendance. It’s not always possible to find an alternative training venue, but students will be supervised until school begins in this circumstance.

We love having photos on display and to help archive our seasons, anyone who has any action shots they’re proud of and willing to share, please forward to acarter@redlands.nsw.edu.au
