International Day
Redlands is a unique community with a wonderful international flavour with many of our students having lived overseas. This generation with the internet, media and travel are very much global citizens. As we celebrate International Day, it is exciting to discover students’ backgrounds and interests.
In Chapel, we have been celebrating with an international focus as well. In the weeks after Jesus resurrection, he tells his disciples that they are not to stay cocooned in their own culture, language and homes but to broaden their perspectives and go to peoples of all nations with the good news about Jesus. The death and resurrection of Jesus was always intended to impact peoples of every nation, language and background. The church has always been a family including people from diverse ethnicity. Christians look forward to a heaven with people of every language, culture, tribe and nation. A place of diversity unified in the God who loves variety.
This is the dream our students all have, that is to live in peace and harmony that celebrates our cultures not ignore our differences. Yet we see that this dream is hard to achieve. Differences in worldview, language and culture can lead to unintended conflict or misunderstandings. In Christ, we have a strength and love to bring differences together and we know that Jesus promised that one day we will see this dream a reality.
