Service and Social Engagement
Red Shield Appeal
This Sunday morning our Yr 11 volunteers will be out door knocking in our local community for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. If you live near the School please give generously when students come knocking to support the work done by the Salvos giving hope where it is needed most through a wide range of social welfare and community service programs.
Redlands@Home Charity Sport Round
On Saturday 15 June, Redlands will again be hosting a Pink Sock round in support of the Breast Cancer Network Australia. Redlands has a proud association with BCNA and we look forward to raising funds in support of its mission again in 2019.
This is a big day in the Redlands Sports calendar and this year we are hoping for a dry weekend. Students, families and Redlanders are encouraged to drop in to the Macquarie Sports Fields so see all of our boys and girls Football, Rugby and Hockey players in action. There will be a fundraising sausage sizzle, a cake stall and lots of fun activities. We also plan to have some of our other off season sports showcased on the day.
Again this year, we encourage the School community to purchase pink socks from the Uniform Shop for $15.00 in support of the charity. All spectators and coaches are encouraged to wear a pink item (or several) on the day to demonstrate support. The Uniform Shop also has pink Redlands hats $15.00 and t-shirts to purchase $20.00.
Socks Undies and Toiletries for Matthew Talbot
In the winter months of the year we have our annual collection of new underwear and toiletries to support the Matthew Talbot Hostel. We are looking for warm socks, underwear and toiletries. Please make a special additional purchase next time you are at the supermarket and bring into school before the holidays.
Holiday Travels
Are you going away during the school holidays? Consider making a collection of hotel and airline toiletries to bring in after the break. We will then pass these on the the Matthew Talbot Hostel.
Yr 10 Sleepout
Planning continues for this big event in the final week of this term. We have booked in the guest speakers and we are asking students to undertake some personal fundraising so that we can support the important work done by Taldumande and Orange Sky Laundry in supporting people living rough in Sydney.
Yr 8 Environmental Impact Investigations
Students in Yr 8 have begun examining how we interact and impact the environment around us during some of their Tutor sessions. The Yr 8 Service Learning theme provides students with an opportunity to reflect on their studies in Geography, Science, Art, and Design and Technology in relation to environmental issues. We focus particularly on our local marine environment. Later this term we will be taking students to the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) where students will have a hands on opportunity to deepen their understanding of both some of the negative impacts and also the restoration work being done in and around Sydney Harbour.
