Cameron Robbins – Artist in Residence

After arriving on site only a week ago, renowned Australian artist Cameron Robbins has created a large scale site responsive artwork that now resides just outside the John Roberts Centre, and has been titled En plein air.

Crafting the work from found materials sourced on the Redlands Campus, Robbins has made a structure that consists of a five metre long aluminium pole, a ballast of old sandstone, dismantled bike parts and a model aeroplane. Miraculously out of these discarded materials has emerged a wind powered kinetic drawing machine.

Redlands students from Yrs 4 to 12 have been actively involved in witnessing the artwork emerging. Visiting the artist in the studio, the students’ enthusiasm spilled over as they investigated first-hand what it is to be an artist, “What would you sacrifice to make your art?”, said an inquisitive Yr 4 student.

Robbins drawing machine will remain at the School and we welcome students and parents to come and observe it in action, as it harnesses the power of the wind to create intricate chalk works on the ground. The sculptural drawing machine has been generously gifted to the School by Robbins to form part of the Redlands Art Collection.

Thank you to Kate Williams, Art Prize Coordinator, and Mark Harpley, Head of Visual Arts, for bringing this project to life and making it so engaging for our students.

Annual Giving – Join us today and support Class of 2019

The Annual Giving this year is dedicated to supporting the Redlands Scholarship Appeal with the objective to raise enough funds to create the Dr Peter Lennox Scholarship in recognition of Dr Lennox’s extraordinary vision and contribution to Redlands.

Our Yr 12 students are already behind the cause, volunteering to help organise activities to inspire student participation in reaching this objective, including a challenge to fellow Redlanders to join them in contributing to this Fund and creating their own Class Legacy Gifts.

Careers Week

As part of Careers Week, 18 Redlanders across a host of industries joined our students in a Speed Mentoring session in the John Roberts Centre during today’s lunchtime. One on one discussions about career choice, tertiary study options, how to get the right job, career changes across a lifetime and life skills were just some of the topics discussed between students and Redlander mentors.

Thank you Caroline Jane, Alumni Manager, and Simone Salier, Careers Advisor, for making this week so exciting for our students.
