New Sports Staff

Mrs Sarah Ellis joins the Junior School Sports team replacing Mrs Gemma Michael, who is on maternity leave. Gemma had her daughter Arla in the holidays. Mrs Ellis is a sports lover with a strong background in Sports Administration in schools. She has settled into the Sports Office this week and will be out and about at Netball this week familiarising herself with all the processes and procedures around our Sports programs.

IPSHA Football (Soccer)

IPSHA Football matches kick off this weekend and we have a very exciting round with Yr 3, 4 and 5 teams all christening the new Redlands Oval with home matches. The draw for all Football has now been emailed and is available on Redlands Pulse. Initial team gradings have been posted on Dunnet Hall noticeboard and emailed to all registered players.

Team selections are based on what our coaches have observed during training and trials over the final weeks of last term during Wednesday Sport time. Teams are graded based on skill and approach to play. We acknowledge that the trial process can be tricky for some players and there may be players disappointed with their grading. The best course of action for those players is to show their best skills, game play and sportsmanship. Our coaches are willing and open to movement if players are performing well.

Our Yrs 5 and 6 teams are both fairly tight on playing numbers, partly a deliberate strategy to increase meaningful playing time and partly forced by the number of players we have. It’s really important to us that we don’t have players standing on the sidelines waiting for game time and I’d rather see players supporting teammates by turning up early and having an extra game before their scheduled match or sticking around to play a later match. Coaches will be asking for players to help – if you’re available it’ll be guaranteed extra playing time.

Rugby Sevens

Our playing numbers have again determined our style of play this season and Sevens Rugby at Koola Park will be the best set up for our Rugby boys. Rugby Sevens has a rolling draw, which matches teams against similar performing teams each week. The draw has been emailed to parents and shows the scheduled time slot, but not exact match times. Those exact times will be emailed to parents each Thursday.

Rugby skills training will be on the Junior Campus oval starting this Friday from 7.15am.

IPSHA Hockey

Our Hockey girls begin their season this Saturday. Draws and team details have been sent to all registered players. Their training session yesterday looked amazing led by Redlander Nick Johnson. The girls are really firing and looking good for a promising season.

AFL

Our AFL Boys take on Barker this weekend on the Barker main oval in a curtain raiser to Barker’s AFL showcase day, which will be super exciting and a great environment to play in. The draw for the AFL season is available on Redlands Pulse and has been emailed to players. Players are reminded to come into the PE office and collect their loan playing kit, or to register their playing number for the team sheet. AFL training will be on the Junior Campus oval starting this Friday from 7.15am and is open to all interested in AFL Football.

Netball

Miss Ellis will be taking over from Ms Gemma Michael and distributing all the information regarding Netball. Our teams and coaches are locked in and continuing on from Term 1 matches and we’ll be looking to make as few changes as possible!

Term 2 Wednesday morning training has taken on a new look with the addition of Leonie Stewart as a coach and coaching mentor. Leonie is a vastly experienced coach who has coached at state and national level. Her expertise will help our girls and coaches really nail down the fundamental skills to help set them up for long ongoing Netball careers. Leonie is keen to pack as much time into the sessions and possible and she, and the coaches, will be starting their Wednesday session at 7.00am in Dunnet Hall NOT 7.15am. Please arrive at 7.00am to make the most of this wonderful opportunity to work with an iconic Netball coach.

Cross Country

The Junior School Cross Country Carnival will be held on Thursday 9 May at Cammeray Golf Club. The format for the Carnival has changed from recent years and students will attend school as normal for classes in the morning – then be bussed to the Carnival at midday. Students should wear PE uniform to school. The order of events is as follows.
