Service and Social Engagement
Are you Travelling in the Coming School Holidays?
During your travels, we would be grateful if you could collect hotel or airline toiletries as we will be having collection points in the Junior and Secondary School offices for donations in the first few weeks of Term 2. These items will be donated to Every Little Bit Helps who provide toiletries to men and womens’ shelters, people experiencing domestic violence as well as refugee centres.
Battle of the Bands Friday 5 April
This is a fun event on the Redlands calendar showcasing the amazing talent of many Redlands students from both the Junior and Secondary Schools. Again this year, the students travelling to Cambodia will be selling tickets at school during lunch time and also on the night. Adult tickets $10 and student tickets $5. The Cambodia team will also be organising the refreshments before the event and during the interval. Lots of Redlands talent will be on display. No need to organise dinner on this night, as we have it covered.
Easter Donations – Wesley Edward Eagar Lodge
We are seeking Easter Egg donations from Yr 7 students for the community who make use of the Edward Edgar Lodge. This was the first residential facility in Sydney to offer accommodation for both homeless men and women.
Wesley Mission’s motto is to “do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can”. So, we can think of no better way to show the spirit of Easter from our Redlands community this year by sharing in the joy of giving to those struggling with homelessness.
Students in all other years are also encouraged to bring in donations to the Secondary School Office.

Mother’s Day Classic Reminder – 38 days to go
Redlands registrations stand at 67 runners or walkers so far, spread the word and get your friends to sign up with us. On Sunday 13 May, come and run or walk then have a brunch with family to celebrate finishing and contributing to cancer research. Over recent years Team Redlands has slipped on the leaderboard of competing schools so our honour is at stake! This is a wonderful family-oriented event with categories for serious runners through to fun runners of all ages. Proceeds raised from this event are donated to Breast Cancer Research.
Don’t forget to purchase your Redlands pink caps and a pink Team Redlands supporter t-shirt from the Uniform Shop, all profits going to the MDC. All Redlands winter sports teams are also encouraged to incorporate this event as part of their training and team building.
Register your interest in joining the Redlands Team here. You will need to complete the registration process nearly all they way to the payment stage before you can select to join the Redlands team (password = Shine).
Wayside Chapel Visit
On Monday 15 April, during the school holidays, a group of 16 Yr 11 students will be visiting Wayside Chapel in Potts Point to learn about the work they do to provide those in our community who are sleeping rough with a safe space and amenities such as showers and emergency clothing, as well as information and referral services within the inner city.
Junior School Reading and Maths Mentoring
This week saw the final mentor training session for our Secondary student volunteers who will be committing their time after school every Wednesday throughout Terms 2 and 3. In these workshops, students have spent some time developing a deeper appreciation of the role they will perform working one to one with a buddy from the Junior School. This is a considerable responsibility and, without their involvement, these programs would not be able to run.
