Summer Sport Trials

Well done to our Junior School students involved in our Representative Sport program who had their first round of Summer Sport trials on the weekend. The weather was perfect, uniforms were on point and there was a high level of enthusiasm at each venue.

Your child’s calendar on your Redlands App has been updated to show what team they are in the coming weeks. Some reminders for you

First Wednesday Sport Session

Well done to all the students in both Representative and Non-Representative Sport who had their first full Wednesday sport session during the week. Prior to departure, our Sport Captains and House Captains (wearing neutral house bibs)  assisted over 400 students in locating their sport lines ahead of dismissal. Just prior to heading off to their respective sports they then heard from Henley and Selma (2025 Sport Captains) with both students to be commended for delivering their first address that outlines their goals for the year for sport and how they want to engage more students.

Students were reminded about the three ‘rights’ and how they impact upon their involvement in Redlands Sport in Term 1. Students are asked to adhere to these;

  • Right place
  • Right time
  • Right equipment

A reminder to check your app each week in regard to your child’s team as our teams are ‘fluid’, meaning teams may change from week to week depending on 3 main criteria:

ABILITY                    in direct comparison to other students across the sport

ATTENDANCE        any student who misses 2 games in a season unrelated to sickness may be moved

ATTITUDE                this is based on behaviour at trainings, on game day and not limited to the sporting arena

Parents and carers are reminded to check the teams each Friday afternoon for changes that may have taken place at training during the week. Students may at times be asked to fill in for other teams occasionally due to absentees etc.

Can you please ensure your check your child’ activities to see what sport they are commencing in this term making sure they bring the appropriate gear and or equipment to sport. Non-Rep families are also reminded to check the home page of Pulse as well as their individual sport pages on a regular basis for updates.

Winter Sport Selection- link closed Tuesday 4 February

Congratulations to over 300 families who completed their Term 2 Winter Sport selection last week. Nominations filled up quickly especially for some of our more popular Non-Rep Sports. For those families who have not completed their child’s Term 2 selection, a reminder was sent last week and please be aware if we don’t receive your child’s nomination they will automatically be added to those sports where places exist, and we will add these to your child’s activities which you can view on the Redlands App.

Cross Country Carnival

The Cross Country Carnival which will take place on Wednesday 12 February for all Junior School students, will be held at St Leonards Park, St Leonards. We will have full access to the entire Park and students will enjoy an open and challenging course. Each student will complete the course twice (two laps) to achieve the total distance.

Our aim is for this to be a fun experience for everyone on the day but also provide a great experience and challenge for those aiming to progress to IPSHA and CIS where the courses present many different challenges. Upon arrival at the venue students in each grade will be divided into two groups (Boys Championship Race and a Girls Championship Race) which will run as separate events.

Unfortunately, in previous Cross Country Carnivals, due to the open nature of the venue we have had parents/carers decide to run the course or parts thereof with their child either as a pace setter or to film their child in action. Not only is this action dangerous and unfair to all students but as result of this we are now adopting the IPSHA and CIS Cross Country rule into our school carnival in relation to this.

That is ‘if there is any outside interference and or hindrance on the course by a parent/carer or even a coach that sees them running part of the course that will rule that particular student time and or place null and void’.

Please note there are times when Redlands coaching staff and or teachers have been asked to run at the ‘tail’ of each event to encourage those students to keep going to the finish. The safety of our students is paramount, but it is equally important to ensure a fair and equitable race for all participants.

Parents, carers and supporters are welcome to view the races from the areas overlooking the start and finish line. Because this venue is open to the public we will be asking all spectators to say clear of the marked course so there is a clear line of sight between each checkpoint and runners are not impeded.

After the event the result will be sorted into age groups with the top 5 runners in boys and the top 5 runners in girls in each age group will make up the Redlands team that will participate at the IPSHA Carnival.

Please refer to our Cross-Country Carnival page on Pulse for all information relating to this carnival.

Redlands Pulse Orientation and Navigation Video

Our intranet, Redlands Pulse, is the first port of call for all Junior School Sport related enquiries. A video has been produced to show you how to navigate through Pulse. You can view this short video here.

Redlands Pulse

The Junior School Sport pages on Redlands Pulse will continue to be the ‘source of truth’ for all information relating to sport this term. I am asking that if parents have an enquiry relating to sport that your first port of call will be the Junior School Sport section of Redlands Pulse.

Representative Sports- Saturday Morning Match Wear

Just a reminder for all families who represent Redlands in Saturday sport only Redlands Sports Uniforms and match day kit is to be worn. Each family should own either a school tracksuit and or a fleece that they can wear over the top of their playing kit if they are cold.

Any incorrect item will now be confiscated as all students have received the same message.

Wednesday Sport Inability to Train

If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through an email to Junior Sport juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. We can then forward this to the relevant external coaching staff. Where applicable please include when they can return to normal training, so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.

Representative Sport Student Absence

If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.

Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.
