Year 7
Year 7 Success: Celebrating a Fantastic First Year!
Finishing Year 7 positively is crucial as it sets a strong foundation for the rest of your secondary school journey. It helps build confidence, fosters a sense of achievement, and encourages a positive mindset for future challenges. Completing Year 7 with enthusiasm also strengthens friendships and enhances overall wellbeing. To celebrate this important milestone, we will host an ice blocks and Fahl celebration on Friday, 29th November, during Tutor Time. This event is a chance to say well done to Year 7 students for a fantastic first year at secondary school!

Science Focus
In the Y7 science lessons this week, students created their own versions of cells using a variety of materials to demonstrate their understanding of cell structure and function. Some students baked cakes, carefully decorating them with edible ingredients to represent different organelles, while others built detailed models with Lego blocks. A few students used plasticine to craft 3D cells, adding vibrant colors to highlight specific parts like the nucleus and mitochondria. The hands-on activity allowed students to creatively explore cell biology while reinforcing the roles of each cell component. Well done to our creative Yr 7 students and a huge thank you to our incredible Science Teachers for making learning so much fun!
Rock in the Quad
On Tuesday this week, we were delighted to hear Rock in the Quad echoing around the Secondary School during recess and lunchtime. Whilst it might not have been quite in the ‘quad’ in recess, due to some unforecasted wet weather, it managed to clear up for our lunchtime session for all to hear and enjoy.
We’re proud of the work of our rock bands and their enthusiastic performances, showcasing the year’s worth of contemporary musical collaboration. A huge well done to Year 7 students Henry Hughes (Guitar) and Joshua Rantall (Voice).

Shout Outs
Two of our talented Redlands students, Andy Guan (Year 9) and Sophie Wong (Year 7), reached the semi-finals of the United Nations Youth Voice competition last Friday.
Sophie Wong has advanced to the final round and will present at NSW Parliament this Friday. Sophie will deliver a prepared speech on addressing the negative impacts of large-scale industrial agriculture while ensuring adequate food supply. Sophie will also showcase her public speaking skills by answering impromptu questions in front of a large audience.
Congratulations to both Andy and Sophie on their outstanding efforts, and best of luck to Sophie for the finals!

Share the Dignity Christmas Drive
On Tuesday, our Yr 7 cohort were visited by Yr 11 students who were helping to promote this year’s Christmas Appeal, aimed at supporting Share the Dignity. Share the Dignity is a women’s charity in Australia that works to make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness or doing it tough.
Tutor groups will be working together to bring in items and then produce a bag of essential goods that can go to an adult, teen or mum and bub, to help someone in need for Christmas. In line with our service focus this semester, this initiative will give students another opportunity to think beyond themselves and work towards helping people in need. Remember, student contributions need to be in by Tuesday!

The Redlands 141st Secondary School Speech Night is fast approaching on Wednesday 4 December. The evening is a wonderful celebration of all our students’ achievements this year. Please make sure you view Pulse for all the relevant details.
