Thanks Coach!

As we conclude another sports term, students are encouraged to foster a culture of gratitude within both the Representative and Non-Representative sports programs. This involves expressing appreciation to their coaches in representative teams, acknowledging supervising staff on Wednesday Sports, recognising coaching staff in Non-Representative sports, as well as showing gratitude to drivers, medical staff, and their foremost supporters—their parents and carers.

Kindly remind your child to take a moment to convey their thanks to coaches, either this Saturday at the final basketball, touch, tennis match or this Wednesday during the last session of Term 4 sport for all our non-representative sports. It was heartening to witness some students last term expressing their gratitude to coaches for their guidance and efforts having coached some of them since the start of the year in various sports.  However, it’s noted that this acknowledgment wasn’t universal across all teams, sports, and individuals at the end of Terms 2 and 3.

In a period when schools in Sydney are grappling with challenges in attracting and retaining sports coaches post-Covid, it is crucial for Redlands to uphold the high standards of coaching across our campuses. A timely reminder to your child would be beneficial, prompting them to personally thank their coaches when they see them on Wednesday. For those inclined to express gratitude in writing, we have sport thank-you cards available at the sports office which your child can come and collect.

On behalf of the Junior School Sport department, we extend our thanks for your continued support in our representative sports program. Please enjoy the video that has been shared previously.

Thank you coach video

Mixed and Girls Basketball Jersey Return

As we approach the conclusion of another successful Term of Basketball, we want to express our pride in the effort and dedication your child has shown throughout the term.

This communication is a friendly reminder regarding the return of the loaned Basketball Jersey. We kindly request that you ensure your child returns their jersey after their final game this Saturday. The Basketball jerseys will be collected at the venues by their coaches. Students will need another shirt to wear home at the conclusion of their game. The replacement cost for our new jerseys is quite high, so we want to avoid billing families for lost jerseys.

Return Process

  • Year 5/6 ABCDEF teams playing at home (Redlands House Courts) for their last game and will return their singlets to their coach on Saturday morning at the conclusion of their game. Boys and girls can use Dunnet Hall change rooms after the games if they wish.

Year 3/4 ABCD teams are playing away.  Jerseys can be returned unwashed (yes you read it correctly as we launder all the jerseys together)  to the sport office so we can launder them and sort them back into sizes on Monday.

  • Year 3/4/5/6 Girls Basketball teams are playing away.  Jerseys can be returned unwashed (yes you read it correctly as we launder all the jerseys together)  to the sport office so we can launder them and sort them back into sizes on Monday.

We emphasise the importance of returning the jersey to avoid any inconvenience. In case the jersey isn’t returned, please note that a replacement cost will be applied.

We sincerely thank you for your cooperation and support in the smooth functioning of our sports programs.

Sports Assembly

Next week we will be having our annual sports awards assembly where awards and certificates will be distributed to those students across sports from across the year. Please see the reminder that sent home on pulse news earlier in the week.

Junior School Sport has become aware of some confusion that exists in parent social groups around our upcoming Sport Awards Assembly with respect to parents and guardians being invited.

Please be aware that only those parents of a child who is receiving an award at this assembly has received an invitation and due to space only 1 parent or guardian from this group and who have RSVP’d to their invitation will have a seat reserved for them with their name on it.

Unfortunately, we cannot have any other parents in attendance at this assembly. Thank you for your understanding.

Rep Sport Summer Sport Term 4

A reminder to check your app each week in regard to your child’s team as our teams are ‘fluid’, meaning teams may change from week to week depending on 3 main criteria:

ABILITY                    in direct comparison to other students across the sport

ATTENDANCE        any student who misses 2 games in a season unrelated to sickness may be moved

ATTITUDE                this is based on behaviour at trainings, on game day and not limited to the sporting arena

Parents and carers are reminded to check the teams each Friday afternoon for changes that may have taken place at training during the week. Students may at times be asked to fill in for other teams occasionally due to absentees etc.

Non-Rep Sport recommencing Term 4

Students were reminded about the three ‘rights’ and how they impact upon their involvement in Redlands Sport in Term 4. Students are asked to adhere to these;

  • Right place
  • Right time
  • Right equipment

Can you please ensure your check your child’ activities to see what sport they are commencing in this term making sure they bring the appropriate gear and or equipment to sport.

Non rep families are also reminded to check the home page of Pulse as well as their individual sport pages on a regular basis for updates.
