Head of Secondary School

With only four weeks left this term, and a series of endings taking place, it certainly feels like the year is coming to a close. Our 2024 Year 12 student examinations concluded this week. Our Year 9 students returned from Camp and at this point in the week, our Year 10 students have now almost finished their Camp experience too. The Year 7-9 Examination blocks have concluded which our younger students approached with such commitment and conscientiousness. At this point in the term, it’s an excellent time to for students to reflect on the year that’s been, the challenges they have overcome and the many accomplishments they have achieved.

I am pleased to share that at our Stage 4 Assembly this week, the Year 12 Captains bestowed With Heart Awards to Elias Buggy Axton and Brodie Howes. Congratulations to these two fantastic humans who always display generosity and care in their treatment of others.

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Safety Is Required on Waters Road

Attention to the Road Rules and Parking Rules is required for our students’ safety on Waters Road.

  • Please do not drop your child off in a no-parking or no-stopping zone.
  • Please do not double park.
  • Please do not drop your child off while paused at the traffic lights.
  • Please do not do a U-Turn on Waters Rd near the traffic lights.

Instead:

  • drop your child off near St Peter’s Anglican Church (Winnie St, Waters Rd, Sutherland St). They can simply walk through the green area and cross safely at the lights.
  • drop your child off in Grosvenor St (near Woolworths). They can simply walk around the corner, cross safely at the pedestrian crossing and walk along Waters Rd to school.
  • drop your child off somewhere else near to school and let them walk to the campus

As a community we appreciate your compliance with basic safety standards. We would rather a student be late to school than injured. We all know young people often do not want to have to walk and may respond with a non-verbal grievance such as an eye-roll. We also know that our young people can navigate a bit of discomfort for their own safety. Thank you for your support and care of your child/ren and the child/ren of other parents.

Year 9 and 10 Camps

While Year 9 students really felt the heat last week at Myall Lakes, Year 10 have experienced some drizzle and more subdued temperatures. Students approached all of their activities in good spirits and showed resilience in overcoming some of the more uncomfortable elements of Camp. Along with hiking, biking, paddling and some dolphin spotting, birthdays have been celebrated and students benefited from a lolly and chocolate drop one afternoon. Sincere thanks go to Redlands staff who make this happen – from the organisation to the activation on the ground – they go above and beyond in the care and commitment to the students.

Calling all Year 8 Parents and Students!

The 2025 Moonbah Evening takes place next Monday evening at 6.00pm in Redlands Hall.

On the evening you’ll meet the High Country Campus Leadership Team, receive further details about the Learning Program and learn some top tips for thriving at Jindabyne from our senior students. We’ve sincerely appreciated the collective efforts of our staff, students and parents in the creation of this experiential and residential experience for Year 9 and are looking forward to sharing further details with you all. The evening begins promptly at 6.00pm. We ask that parents have an intentional conversation with their Year 8 child about what they will be doing after school on Monday – coming home to meet you and travelling back to school with you or staying at school to study and meeting you just before 6.00pm. Mr Tod-Hill has further information on accommodations being made to supervise Year 8 prior to the evening’s commencement.
