Easter House Activities

Today during morning break and lunch, the Heads of House and House Captains organised various Easter themed House competitions to further the House spirit and allow an opportunity for more vertical integration across the Year Groups. Students partook in activities such as Rob the Nest, a Fashion Parade and even the Great Egg and Spoon race (although I didn’t see anyone today matching my egg and spoon race skills from the House promotional video). It was great to see students across the Year Groups sharing in some of these fun activities today.

Yr 9 Market Day

On Monday and Tuesday this week during lunchtime, our Yr 9 Commerce students put both their culinary and marketing expertise to the test for our Yr 9 Market Day lunches. Fondue, pasta, Scottish fudge and Asian dumplings were just a few of the treats being sold in stalls that were set up in the Undercroft. Well done to the Yr 9 students and the teachers who organised this event. No one left the Undercroft hungry!

Musical: Strictly Ballroom

The excitement has well and truly been in the air this week as over 130 students and staff have been in final rehearsals for the Secondary School Musical, Strictly Ballroom, which opens tonight and continues Friday and Saturday evenings at The Concourse in Chatswood. The performing and creative arts continues to flourish at Redlands and I wish everyone involved in the musical all the best over the coming days.

Uniform

We just wanted to update parents on some of our uniform expectations as we move into the cooler months and head into Term 2. Please ensure that students have the proper sized winter uniforms for the beginning of next term. Please note that students are only to wear blazers as an outer garment to and from school on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday when they are in their proper school uniform. Students are not to wear fleeces, hoodies, jumpers or track suit tops as outer garments to and from school on these days. While blazers are optional in Terms 1 and 4, all students are required to wear blazers to and from school in Terms 2 and 3.

On Thursdays, students may wear their Sports uniform to and from school. The Sports uniform (as outlined on p. 21 of the Student Planner and on Redlands Pulse) consists of Redlands navy shorts, Redlands navy PE shirt, Redlands track suit (in cooler weather), white socks and sports shoes with non-marking soles. We would also like to clarify that students are able to wear their Redlands fleeces to and from school on Thursdays and as part of their Sports uniform at school, when the weather is cooler. Students are not to wear Redlands hoodies as part of their Sports uniform.

Academic Flags and Learning Management Alerts

I wanted to take a moment to remind parents of the aims and intentions of Academic Flags in Yrs 9-12 and Learning Management Alerts in Yrs 7 and 8. The purpose of this system is to ensure timely and targeted communication between the class teacher, Year Advisor, Tutor and parent to ensure that students do not fall behind academically. This communication is emailed to parents on Friday afternoon to allow students to catch up on any Home Learning or other assignments over the weekend. This system should not be seen as a punishment but rather a support system to empower students to take responsibility for their learning. This system is also seen as a first step to assist students in their learning so that follow up conversations with key people, as well as other systems, can be put into place if students continue to find difficulty meeting academic expectations. We hope this form of proactive communication will assist students in their studies moving forward.

Term 2 Departures

If your children will be leaving Redlands during or at the end of Term 2, could you please provide notice to the Principal (via email to registrar@redlands.nsw.edu.au) by Friday 5 April. As per our Terms and Conditions, any Term 2 departures notified after this date will incur one term’s fees in lieu.
