News from Last Term

National Youth Championships (CIS)

Sam Wightwick attended the National Youth Champions for Touch Football in the last week of Term 3. The team delivered an impressive performance, reaching the semi-finals where they faced CHS. Despite a hard-fought match, the team narrowly missed out on advancing, with a final score of 6-3 in favour of CHS. What made this achievement even more remarkable was that the CIS team played with only 10 players by the end of the match, while CHS had a full squad of 14. This result is a testament to the determination, resilience, and skill displayed by Sam and her team throughout the competition. Sam was a standout player from the tournament, who as a result, was awarded the CIS Coaches Award for her outstanding contribution. Her coach reached out to the school to commend her, highlighting how brilliantly she played her role within the team and praising her overall performance throughout the competition.

Congratulations Sam on a wonderful achievement.

  • In the longer-distance track events, Max Perry achieved a PB in the 17 Boys 1500m, finishing 6th with a time of 4:38. Annabelle Hwang also gave her 1500m everything, finishing in 11thplace.
  • Jett Gwilliam ran a solid race in the 17 Boys 400m, finishing 7th with a PB time of 55.66, while Charles Hargraves placed 8th in the 16 Boys 200m, clocking in at 24.21.
  • In field events, Megan Kirkpatrick earned 7th in both the 17 Girls Shot Put and Discus events.

Congratulations to all the athletes who represented Redlands with determination and sportsmanship at the CIS Athletics Championships.

Geography Yr 11 HSC

In Geography, Yr 11 HSC students have been exploring life in High Latitudes. In the last week of Term 3, our wonderful Geography Teacher and resident Antarctic expert Mr Thomas brought in clothing and equipment used in his previous expeditions to this incredible continent. Students had the opportunity to see the value of layering clothes, how to engage in scientific research and what recreational opportunities exist for our Antarctic researchers. This engaging and hands-on lesson shows us the importance of understanding the world around us.
