Head of Preparatory School

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a lovely break. If you are travelling, safe travels and if not, then my hope is that the variation to school routine provides some down time for you and your family.

Term 3 is always one of my favourite terms at Redlands as our students engage in units of inquiry that encourage such curiosity. By this time of the year, learners have developed a strong ‘toolbox’ for learning and can draw on so many different strategies to express and demonstrate their thinking. Their ‘learning resilience’ has grown to a level where they feel confident to think outside the box and try new things, knowing that learning from mistakes is a great way to grow. In saying this, I have also observed so many of our students listening to feedback and feeling confident to give feedback to their friends. Such a powerful way to learn and a great foundational skill to develop.

We have focused this term on being kind. I start our Tuesday lines each week with a simple question ‘how much does it cost to be kind to someone’ and all our Prep students are very quick to tell me that it costs nothing! In the playground and in the classroom, staff and students are working together to ensure that the power of being kind is celebrated and encouraged. Talking to someone, not about them, checking why a friend is looking sad or including a friend who may be eating or playing alone are just some of the many ways our students have been showing kindness.

Again, I wish everyone a lovely break and on behalf of all the staff, thank you for your ongoing support and connection with us in prep.
