Tournament of Minds
Congratulations to Aashray So, Alisha Rajalingam, Sophie Wong and Yolanda Bai for their fantastic performance in Tournament of Minds (TOM) at UNSW on Sunday 8th September. A total of 67 schools competed at this event. The Year 7s collaborated extremely well with Year 8 students, Ina Guan, Lachlan Carter and Liv Law for six weeks to develop a dramatic performance that brought to life the story of a living local person in their community. The judges were very impressed by the team’s ability to demonstrate their sense of connection to the refugee experiences of Lachlan’s grandfather using three art forms – instrumental music, classical dance, and painted murals. Well done to our Year 7s on their well-deserved award, and thank you to Dr Poon and the following staff for facilitating their training sessions, Ms Bailey, Ms Cleghorn, Mr Holden, Ms Joo and Ms Kang.

Ice Cream Social
Next Thursday during Tutor Time on September 19, Yr 7 students will gather for a delightful Ice Cream Social. This event provides an opportunity for students to connect with their peers in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, fostering friendships and a sense of community. The social will include a variety of ice cream flavours and toppings, ensuring everyone can create their perfect treat. This shared experience aims to promote camaraderie among the students as they continue to settle into the school year.

R U OK? Day
R U OK? Day is an annual event in Australia, held on the second Thursday of September, dedicated to promoting mental health and wellbeing. The day encourages everyone to check in with friends, family, and colleagues by asking a simple yet powerful question: “Are you OK?” It’s a reminder that a conversation can make a big difference in someone’s life, helping to support those who may be struggling with their mental health. This year we have been engaging in a number of Pastoral Care sessions to learn more about how to ask questions, develop empathy and engage with others. Let’s all take this opportunity to connect and show each other that we care.

Bougainvillea Talent Showcase

We are thrilled to announce the Bougainvillea Redlands Talent Showcase, a wonderful event that offers students a unique opportunity to share their talents and connect with the community! The showcase will be held at the Bougainvillea old people’s home on 19 September, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Not only is this a chance for your child to perform and brighten the day of some truly lovely people, but it also provides a meaningful way to earn extra service or CAS hours.
Whether your child prefers to perform solo or as part of a group, all types of acts are welcome! It’s a fantastic way for students to develop their confidence, showcase their skills, and experience the joy of giving back. It will be a fun and rewarding afternoon for all participating students.
Encourage your child to take part in this heart-warming event. Entry submissions are due by 16 September at 3:30 pm.
Students can sign up here.
