Year 7
Our Wonderful Redlands Community
It has been wonderful to see so many Yr 7 students getting actively involved in the life of the School. Over the last few weeks we have seen so many students attend the following events.
- Fuse Cup
- Meeting of Minds
- House Debating Competition
- ISA Athletics
- ICAS Maths
- Book Week
- HICES Music Festival
Meeting of Minds
Last week, 10 Yr 7 students attend the Meeting of Minds on the topic of Ethics. During this day of philosophical inquiry students investigated the topic of “now-ism”: Do we value people living now more than future generations? Within this day, students developed skills in Critical thinking, Creative thinking and Collaborative thinking. A huge congratulations goes to the following students: Yolanda Bai, Kody Benoliel, Tara Clarke, Julian Lundberg, Cleo McLay, Sophia Moriarty, Alma O’Leary, Sam Parsons, Jennifer Todd and Ethan Wei. A big thank you also goes out to Dr Poon and Dr Regis for their continued engagement and support of our Yr 7 students.

Beekeeping Club – Candle Making
This week at Beekeeping Club the students were lucky enough to make beeswax candles. Beeswax, a natural byproduct of honey production, is valued for its clean burn, sweet honey-like scent and bright flame. The process is relatively simple but requires attention to detail, such as maintaining the right temperature to avoid scorching the wax and ensuring the wick is centered for an even burn. Beeswax candles are eco-friendly, non-toxic and often used for their calming ambiance. The students enjoyed this process and created some excellent candles to take home.

Shout Outs
Well done to Mac Costa and Xander Christian-Hare for their fantastic readings in our Stage 4 Assembly this week.

Bougainvillea Talent Showcase

We are thrilled to announce the Bougainvillea Redlands Talent Showcase, a wonderful event that offers students a unique opportunity to share their talents and connect with the community! The showcase will be held at the Bougainvillea old people’s home on 19 September, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Not only is this a chance for your child to perform and brighten the day of some truly lovely people, but it also provides a meaningful way to earn extra service or CAS hours.
Whether your child prefers to perform solo or as part of a group, all types of acts are welcome! It’s a fantastic way for students to develop their confidence, showcase their skills, and experience the joy of giving back. It will be a fun and rewarding afternoon for all participating students.
Encourage your child to take part in this heart-warming event. Entry submissions are due by 16 September at 3:30 pm.
Students can sign up here.
Service Opportunity
Want to keep your child busy during the school holidays with interesting activities that are also fun and meaningful?
