Yr 3-12 HSC Visual Arts Exhibition

The HSC Visual Arts Exhibition is now open for all students to view throughout the school day either on breaks or with their classes. The stunning and thought-provoking work from the Yr 12 HSC students highlights meaningful topics from moments with siblings, stereotypes in the media, societal pressures to stages of life. Congratulations to all HSC Visual Arts students for all of their time and effort in their showcases: Sierra Allen, Heidi Colleran, Hannah Guo, Sunny Ho, Sophia Parkinson, Alexandria Power, Caitlin Preece, Felicity Schlederer, Patrick Taylor and Isla Wickham.

Science Extension Projects Presentation

Last week, all Science Extension students were invited to share their research projects with Yr 11 students and staff to showcase their questions, their methodology and their results. Students have spent most of this year planning and running these experiments and they have produced extremely interesting results. Well done to all students for their time and dedication to this project: Thomas Sigaloff, Xander Halfen, Flora Cutchey, Charlie Hugman, Claudia Franklin, Lachlan  Collyer and James Ashby.

Snowsports Interschool Championships

Congratulations to all students who competed in Race Week and will be attending the Snowsports Interschool Championships in Perisher from Tuesday 3rd September to Sunday 8th September. Good luck to all students and their various events throughout the week: Winter Penney, Felicity Schlederer, Julius Keller, Alfie Leach, Daniel Lev and Thomas Reeves.

Legacy Gift Fundraising and Non-School Dress Day Friday!

This year, the graduating class of 2024 has decided to leave our legacy by raising money for the means-tested Redlands Scholarship Fund. The scholarship provides an opportunity for a Redlands education to a student who may otherwise be unable to attend the School. We want to share the support, encouragement and opportunities that Redlands has provided us.

To make this possible, we are thrilled to invite the entire Redlands community to join us in our fundraising efforts.

Your support means the world to us as we reach the grand finale of our Redlands journey. Come be a part of something special—purchase our exclusive memorabilia or make a direct contribution to the Scholarship Fund. Let’s make a lasting impact together!

Drink bottles, key rings and icy poles will be sold at lunchtime.

Sailing Captain Highlight: Alissandra Braden

Alissandra has been invited to join the National Olympic Pathway Screening and Training camp for a new type of boat (49erFX), taking place in Lake Macquarie during Week 6. She was also invited to join the National Pre-Emerging Olympic Pathway Squad for 2024/25 which is a step up from the previous squad she was in for the past few seasons.

As Alissandra has been heavily involved in sailing throughout her entire schooling, see her responses to what she will remember most and what she has learned about herself while managing the HSC.

What is your proudest achievement?

It’s a close call between being the 2024 Sailing Captain and being offered a spot by the Australian Olympic Committee as the reserve sailor for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

What have you learned about yourself through sailing?

There are so many things in life that you can control. However, there will always be situations which are just out of your hands. You can’t manage what scenarios happen to you, but you can be proactive, not reactive in how you respond. Also- life is constantly changing (much like the wind) so you can never get too comfortable in where you are and you must always have the adaptability to respond to change.

What are your future goals?

I’m currently in a transition between the ILCA 6 (Women’s Olympic dinghy) and the 470 (mixed Olympic dinghy) so my short-term goal is to make the top 10 at the next 470 nationals and long-term goal is to compete in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

How have you managed sailing with the HSC?

Since we started Year 11, everyone said to keep up all my sailing commitments and not to loose sight of my goals. For me, I knew I’d have to cut back sailing a bit in the lead up to exams. However, I needed to continue training. So, I made a plan each week and managed to fit in study, gym and sailing sessions to ensure I was making the most out of each day and not wasting valuable time.
