HICES Music Festival – Years 5-8

Auditioned students from Years 5-8 performed in the HICES Music Festival at Sydney Town Hall yesterday, which was the culmination of an incredible four-day music camp at Stanwell Tops. These students were lucky enough to work under the direction of outstanding  music educators, including Australian composer and conductor Paul Jarman. 

The students came away from the experience buzzing with so much energy from making so much wonderful music together and creating many new friendships.

A big thank you goes to Ms Katherine Moses, Ms Nicole Roberts and Mr Mathew Owen who managed ensembles and accompanied the wonderful music making. 

We are so proud of the hard work our students put in to create an incredible night of music with many other HICES schools.

Junior Music Festival 

The 2024 Junior Music Festival – Postcards from Abroad – was certainly a tour de force! Our cohorts shined, cocurricular ensembles dazzled, and our Arts Captains Edward Grinham and Sienna Benz kept us captivated throughout the evening. A particular highlight was the finale, in which all 450 students graced the stage in a triumph of logistics! It truly was a wonderful musical journey and the Music Department are incredibly proud of the achievements of all students. 

A big thanks to all involved, in particular our Friends of Music team whose contributions ensured the success of the event.

Composition Competition – due Friday 23 August

The final competition in our annual series, Composition Competition a.k.a. Comp Comp’ is a fantastic catalyst for those budding singer-songwriters and composers to get their creative juices flowing! Redlands 7th Album project is now open to receive entries via the iLearn page. Adhering to the specified guidelines, composition submissions are to be uploaded by Friday 23 August 2024.

Curriculum Showcases

Students in Elective Music classes will perform in their showcases in Term 3 and 4. Parents and friends are invited to attend and support the students in their performances and celebrate their achievements this year. Please note the following dates in your calendar:

Year 11 HSC & IB Music Performance Anxiety Workshop

Last week our Year 11 HSC and IB Music participated in a Performance Anxiety workshop with Sarah Marshall. She shared with them a variety of practical techniques that they can use to assist them with performance anxiety, skills which can be transferred to other areas of their learning. The students are currently preparing for their upcoming Performance Showcase. We have invited Sarah back in the future to work with more of our students.
