Athletics Carnival

The damp conditions at yesterday’s annual Junior School Athletics Carnival did not take away from the excitement of this important event in the life of the School. There was plenty of House Spirit and camaraderie on display and I was struck by our students’ wonderful energy and superb participation, as well as some tremendous individual performances.  We will recognise our Age Champions and Runners Up at next week’s’ assembly on Tuesday. A huge thank you our valiant parent volunteers whose assistance was greatly appreciated. Thank you as well to the many parents who made time to attend the carnival to support their children. And finally a big thank you to the Sport department and wider Redlands staff team for running such a well organised and enjoyable event.

HICES Music Festival

After the recent impressive Junior Music Festival, I was delighted to attend the annual HICES Music Festival at Town Hall last evening. This concert featured a number of our very talented musicians who combined with 358 students from other HICES network schools to perform a wide repertoire of high-quality music. The opportunity to collaborate with new friends from diverse backgrounds, expert musical tutors and highly accomplished conductors over the 4-day build up to the concert, no doubt will be a valuable and memorable experience for our students. My thanks to the music team and our parents for your strong support of this event.

Parents Circles: Responsive Parenting and Raising Healthy Children

Being a responsive parent sounds simple enough, but living high-stress lives, often in isolation, lots of us know how nearly impossible it can be. Recognising that the essential condition for a healthy child’s development is the child’s relationship with nurturing adults, I invite you to join me for regular Parents Circles.

The next Parents Circle will take place in Week 6 in the Prep Library, after school drop off. We welcome our Prep and Junior School parents to attend. Please feel free to bring your coffee or tea. As this is a parenting circle of support, numbers are limited to 20 to keep it small enough for interactive discussion, so please book your space here.

The topic for Week 6 (Wednesday), 28/08/2024 8.30 am – 9.30 am in Lucy Hill Library is:

Understanding Defence Mechanisms in Children

  • Defence mechanisms are often adaptive strategies for coping with stress and managing emotions. Understanding these mechanisms can help parents provide appropriate support and guidance to help their children navigate challenges.
  • Distinguishing between defence mechanisms and understanding the roles they play
  • What defence mechanism do I use as a parent and how does this impact my child?
  • Exploring what healthy coping mechanisms parents can use to navigate challenging situations and promote their children’s well-being.
