Welcome Back

Welcome back to Yr 12 students and their families to the last term of Secondary School. As students have noticed that they are engaging in “their last” of several things at the start of this term, they are also excited and full of energy returning from productive breaks and focusing on the upcoming Trial Examinations in Wk 3.

As a record number of Yr 12 students participated in the JEDDLE, OSC and Redlands based academic workshops over the term break, presenters were impressed by their enthusiasm for the content, their engagement in the sessions and the sheer number of students committing to this additional support outside of term time. Thank you for parent and carer support from home and well done to the cohort for embracing these opportunities.

Last term wrapped up with smiles, dancing and beautiful memories for the Class of 2024. Students heard from Mr Nick Walker as his cohort started the Give Back Morning Initiative. They also heard from Mrs Jansons, Mrs Riley, Mrs Van de Peer, Mr Corcoran and their Year Advisors with thoughts on what service means to them, the meaning of giving back to the Redlands Community and how it can be a part of their lives ongoing. Students jumped into their varied activities throughout the morning with enthusiasm and ended their day at the Yr 12 Formal. Photos below showcase a few beautiful moments of the cohort entering the Shangri-La Ballroom, the cohort taking to the dance floor and having an unforgettable evening. A full collection of photos will be shared with students via a link from our external provider.

Wishing you all a rich and well-rounded last term with moments of pride, reflection and gratitude.

Nutrition and Examinations Presentation with Anna from The Biting Truth

This week, Yr 11 and 12 students engaged in a presentation by Anna, founding director of The Biting Truth and an Accredited Practising Dietician. She shared invaluable information with students regarding what to eat at breakfast to fuel your body and brain, addressed the appropriate amount of caffeine for growing teenagers to consume on a daily basis (one cup!) and busted a few myths that have been trending on TikTok. Students were encouraged to ensure they do include carbohydrates, proteins and fruits for a well-balanced breakfast and they were advised as to which local neighbourhood fast food places offer healthy, nutrient-rich meal options to keep their energy up for studying throughout the afternoon.

Anna invited students to email her with any questions about fads or specific queries about getting enough of a balance for breakfast throughout the examination period. Further information about Anna and her co-founder, Alex, can be found here.

Year 12 Legacy Gift: Our Gift, Our Legacy

It has been an exciting journey with the Year 12 Legacy Gift team working through ideas, concepts and fundraising initiatives. This year’s student led initiative is focusing on the importance of ‘Giving Back’ to the School. It is wonderful to see students working collaboratively and with a passion to continue this tradition which was started by the Class of 2016.

This year, funds raised will be contributed to the sixth Redlands Means Tested Scholarship named after Coralie Amos OAM Redlander Class of 1964. For all her efforts and commitment to Service, Coralie was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for Community Service in 2021.

Please join Year 12 in their efforts: They are inviting the entire Redlands community to support them in their fundraising efforts. They appreciate your support as they come to the end of their Redlands journey by purchasing one, or more, of our special commemorative 2024 drink bottles, Redlands Rhino key chains and greeting cards, or contribute directly to the Scholarship Fund.

If you make a purchase, products will be available next Term (July/August) either delivered to your child’s class/tutor or by post for an extra charge.

Alternatively you can make a tax deductible donation to the Coralie Amos OAM Scholarship.
