Heritage Week

This week is Heritage Week during which we celebrate Redlands 140th anniversary as well as 125 years on the Senior Campus at Military Road. The week culminates in the Foundation Day Service for Years 6 and 12 students on Friday. The theme of this important event is ‘service’ and will include the Redlands Service Captains leading a Q&A to a panel of Redlander Alumni. As a recognition of this important milestone, all Junior School students will receive 140th Anniversary badges to pin on their blazers and will be given a birthday cupcake for morning tea on Friday. Please note that each class will have gluten free cupcakes available. If you do not wish your child to be given a cupcake or your child has other food allergies, you are welcome to send a special ‘one off treat’ for your child.

Parent Teacher Interviews – Term 3

Some early notice that there will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s class teacher in the second week of Term 3.  The focus of the meetings will be to discuss student progress, as set out in Semester 1 reports, and to revisit learning goals for the second half of the year. The meetings will take place across the whole of that week and as such please note that the Tuesday school-based clubs will start in Week 3 of Term 3.  A booking schedule will be sent out in the last week of this term. To assist coordination and logistics for many of our families with children in the Prep School, we have scheduled the meetings for the same week as that section of the School.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches

We are pleased to note that the vast majority of our students exhibit sensible and mature behaviour when using technology at school. That said, I respectfully remind parents that students are not permitted to use a mobile phone during school hours or other digital technologies such as smart watches to send or receive messages. Year 5 and 6 students who have a BYOD iPad should ensure that the iMessage function is turned off while at school. Our IT team will be conducting some spot checks of devices over the next few weeks and teachers will also be using the Apple Classroom App to monitor and enforce these expectations as required.

Greenlands Week Junior School

A message from Redlands Sustainability Manager, Kimberlee Chipper
This week on the Junior Campus we have been celebrating Greenlands Week with a variety of opportunities for students to engage in sustainability initiatives and endeavours. Classes have been competing for the ‘Greenest Class’ award by participating in activities to create environmental awareness (lights off lessons, smartboard free lessons, turning off the air conditioner, bringing in a waste-free lunch and learning about sustainability). Students revisited their own environmental pledge in classes and participated in a wide range of lunch time activities, such as yabby net untangling, a swap shop, and tomorrow there will be a sow and grow session.

We will continue our hard-to-recycle collections until next week, so please bring in any of the following to the collection tubs outside ground floor of the Learning Hub:
– Make up containers
– Pens/markers
– Bottle tops
– Toothpaste/toothbrushes
– Mobile phones

To continue the spirit of Greenlands Week, a beach cleanup will occur on Sunday 23 June, with a group of schools from the North Sydney and Mosman council areas.

Please feel free to sign up using this link.

Greenlands Week doesn’t just stop at our students and teachers. Our Senior Campus Environment Captains, Tara and Conor, also wanted to pass along a message to Redlands parents about how all families can reduce their own carbon emissions. Below is a Net Zero guide from Zero Emissions Sydney North, which outlines a variety of ways that families can minimise their own impact on the environment.

Grandparents Day

A final reminder that Grandparent’s Day is next Tuesday. We are very excited this year to be having a whole campus approach with games, conversation and morning tea together. Grandparents are to arrive from 9.15am and are to head to the piazza area where they will meet their grandchildren in the areas of their Year Group flags. Please make sure that grandparents know which Year Group their grandchildren are in. For those with two or more grandchildren, it would be helpful for you to decide at home which Year Group area your children and grandparents will meet at. The morning will be filled with fun games that will be run by staff members and there will be a coffee cart available throughout the morning for a warm coffee. As our activities are outside, we encourage everyone to dress warmly. To finish the mornings activities, children and grandchildren will have their morning tea together in the playground and say farewells at 11am.
