Year 9

Tony and I really enjoyed meeting some of you last Friday at the Twilight Drinks. It was an added bonus that the evening helped contribute to the volunteering from our new Parent Reps for 2019!

Interesting Article of the Week

Please read

On Monday 25 February, Redlands staff attended a seminar provided by Dr Judith Locke, clinical psychologist and author of The Bonsai Child: Why modern parenting limits children’s potential and practical strategies to turn it around. I hope that many of you attended the session she also ran at 6.00pm on that evening and found it informative and useful.

This week I read an article by Lisa Hughes, in which she reviews Judith Locke’s book. Lisa is the founder and director of Occupational Therapy Helping Children in Balgowlah and Pymble.

Mothers’ Day Classic

On Sunday 13 May, the Mothers’ Day Classic 5km run takes place. More details are available on the Note Day Service page. I will be registering to run in the race and would love some company on the day! So please join me and other parents / teachers from Redlands for this worthwhile cause.

International Women’s Day and Dinner Opportunity

This coming Friday 8 March is International Women’s Day. We will be having a whole school assembly on the day, where a guest speaker from the organisation Room to Read Girls’ Education Program in Nepal will be presenting. As Yr 9 are currently learning about gender inequality, we are lucky enough to have two student places at a dinner in Sydney on Thursday 14 March. Please ask to see your child’s email from me for further details. Click here if you wish to know more about this organisation.

Pastoral Care Program

This week students have spent time looking at either how much time they spend online and comparing this with others, and thinking about how this can negatively impact their lives. Others have been looking at cyber-bullying: what it looks like and what their response should be to it as a victim, perpetrator, and a by-stander.

Social Awareness Program

This week students have begun to look at the Term 1 topic of Gender Inequality. Students are now choosing a particular organisation to research in relation to their particular issue regarding gender inequality.
