Year 10

Yr 10 Assessment Handbook

The Yr 10 Assessment Handbook has been posted in digital form as a PDF on the Yr 10 Pastoral Page of iLearn. During our Year Assembly last week I showed students where this important document is located on the Yr 10 Pastoral page. Please encourage students to document their assessments on a wall planner. Many large (A1, A2) year planners can be easily purchased online through companies such as Officeworks and Typo. In addition, students should make themselves aware of the assessment rules located at the front of this document.

Study Centre

The aim of the Redlands Study Centre is to provide students from Yrs 7-12 with the opportunity to seek shoulder to shoulder support or assistance in specific subject areas from Secondary School teachers. These sessions are not to be seen as formalised one on one tutoring but instead should be seen as opportunities for students to get answers to specific questions of feedback on specific areas of learning. Most study sessions are held in the Roseby Library before and after school and at lunchtime. The Study Centre timetable is available for students to access on the Yr 10 Pastoral page on iLearn.

Independent Learning

At this time in their learning journey, Yr 10 students should be aware of the importance of independent learning. During our Year Assembly this week, I discussed the importance of making time to engage in independent study/revision as well as Home Learning. There should never be the excuse that there is nothing to do in terms of Home Learning and students should be setting time aside each day for revision. Students should review the learning of the day, read ahead, create summary notes and further investigate topics of interest. Students should be canvassing their individual subject teachers for ideas on what revision strategies are appropriate to each subject. Again, Dr Prue Salter’s website is a valuable resource with a plethora of information to assist students to develop good study habits: www.studyskillshandbook.com.au User name: Redlands, Password: 68results

Yr 10 Explorations in Science

Students in 10.2, Ms Bryant’s Science class, performed titrations (neutralisation chemical reactions) for the first time in their class last week. This is apparent from the very light pink in the conical flask that Ross is holding below. These students managed to achieve very accurate results. Many thanks to Ms Bryant for sharing this exciting learning news.

ISA Swimming Carnival

All Yr 10 students received an email asking for volunteers for the ISA Swimming Carnival to be held on Wednesday 13 March at Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre, Homebush. This year, Redlands will be hosting the ISA Carnival and students are needed to volunteer on the day. This is a great opportunity to be part of an exciting swim meet and for students to demonstrate their leadership skills as part of the Redlands community. Students will be transported to and from the venue by bus and the return time to school on the day will be approximately 6.00pm. Students will be involved in time keeping, marshal running and distribution of catering. Please encourage your son or daughter to volunteer.

Masters Academy is running two free lunch time sessions on Public Speaking (with nibbles provided) for students in L.1.4 on Thursday 7 March and Thursday 14 March. Anyone is welcome though classroom space is limited. Please ask your son or daughter to drop in.
