Year 10
Year 10 Half-Yearly Examination Reminders
Today at our Yr 10 assembly, I congratulated students on their excellent preparation for the Half-Yearly Examinations. This is a significant milestone for the cohort – it is their last exam block before commencing their Senior studies later this year. I know that there has been much trepidation and some challenging hurdles to overcome in the lead up to the exam block. I encourage Yr 10 to spend the weekend focusing on self-care, study and sleep before next week.
Here are some key messages and reminders I reaffirmed with Yr 10 in regards to their Half-Yearly Examinations:
Uniform
- Students must attend the Half-Yearly Examinations wearing full school uniform. Students are permitted to wear sport uniform on Thursday, and on Tuesday if they are involved in representative sport training.
- Students are not exempt from sport training due to exams.
Cocurricular Activities
- Students should attend their co-curricular activities if they are at school for an examination.
Examination Etiquette
- Students are NOT to leave school in between exams. NO student may go home or go out to lunch and return later for an exam. Students are permitted to come in late or leave if they have one exam in the day.
- Behaviour in the Library will be monitored: Study in Library only – no other areas of the school.
- Students must not loiter around shops after exams – they must go straight home.
A reminder of the Examination Code of Conduct in Assessment Handbook
- No speaking in an exam
- No gesturing or non-verbal communication
- No Mobiles or smart watches (unless exempt for medical purposes)
- Use the bathroom before – no students will be permitted to leave for bathroom during the exam
- Study Notes must not be brought into the exam room
- All equipment must be kept in a clear pencil case
Illness
- If a student is ill during exams, they must stay home for the whole day and obtain a doctor’s certificate. Students cannot come in for one exam, and not the other citing illness as the reason.
Da Vinci Decathlon
Year 10 travelled to Knox Grammar School on Wednesday 15 May to compete in the Da Vinci Decathlon. They demonstrated excellent teamwork skills and have worked hard since the start of Term 1 to prepare for the big day. Congratulations to Zara Anderson, Leah Chung, Kira Delaney, Ethan Lee, Lucinda Maher, Finlay Meijer, Frankie Richardson, and Marcus Richardson for their dedicated efforts. While some students on the team have done Da Vinci before, there were also several new members, who adapted quickly to the high level of academic rigour and challenge. Well done!
Year 10 UTS Microcredential Opportunity
In Term 4, Yr 10 students will have the opportunity to engage in a UTS micro-credential, providing an opportunity for students to study a university subject over a two-week period and gain academic credits towards a future university degree. Please find the detailed letter from the Redlands Sustainability Manager regarding this opportunity here.
