Year 7

Welcome Back

Welcome back to our Yr 7 families. We hope you have had an enjoyable and restful break. With 11 weeks to settle in, our students have found their feet across campus, and we hope this term will provide opportunities for building connections with a wider friendship group, trying new activities, developing their love of learning and feeling more secure and supported in their daily school routine.

Respectful Relationships

This year, In Your Skin will be visiting Year 6 to Year 12 students presenting and hosting workshops on the topic of respectful relationships. Workshops support young people to develop healthy relationship skills. Students are encouraged to actively consider their relationship values and expectations, and to develop a healthy and realistic sense of self and ‘other’.

Year 7 Day of AI – Friday 10 May

Next Friday, all Yr 7 Students will be part of an exciting day of AI challenge.

The Day of AI event is a globally recognised interactive teaching and learning experience designed to empower students to develop an understanding of concepts associated with AI systems and develop a deeper understanding of its potential impact on society and reflect on ethical considerations.

At Redlands, we believe in fostering a culture of adaptability, creativity, and collaboration. By integrating programs like the Day of AI into our curriculum, we are ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. This experience will not only enhance their technological capabilities but also improve their ability to think critically, collaborate in teams, and communicate effectively.

Participation in the Day of AI event is not only an opportunity for our students to engage with technological innovation, but also a chance for them to take a supported risk, explore new ideas and develop their voices as contributors to our global community.

The program will run for two days, with the first day (Friday 10 May) dedicated to interactive learning experiences for the entire cohort. On the second day (Monday 13 May), students will have the option to participate in a time-boxed competition where they will work in teams to develop innovative ideas for using AI to tackle sustainability and climate change.

We encourage you to support your child’s participation in this enriching experience and look forward to seeing the creativity and innovation that they bring to the Day of AI event.
