Busy Days in the Drama and Theatre Space

There has been a lot of activity in the Drama and Theatre space this last week with many wonderful things happening.

Year 11 IB have been learning about Physical theatre in particular Frantic Assembly and they have produced some great “strings” of physical dialogue, showcasing the IB learner profile, especially the ‘risk taker’ mentality stepping outside their comfort zone. They will use these skills to create some Collaborative performances to be showcased next term.

Year 12 IB are headlong in to the Collaborative Project, devising in groups using a myriad of stimuli, their first draft was filmed last week with some beautifully theatrical moments.

Should you wish to see more then please bookmark the date for the performances on the 24 May, 6.30pm for both Year 11IB and 12IB Theatre.

Year 10 Drama: all three classes took the work of Shakespeare and performed it the way Shakespeare had intended by remodelling Liggins Quad into an Elizabethan Globe type venue, more on that next week when the photographs are ready to share. Some students will now be put forward to represent Redlands at the Shakespeare Carnival when they will perform with other schools, ultimately competing in a kind of ‘Bard off’ – in the different categories. We look forward to seeing what they will produce. We are very proud of all of the efforts of the students and looking forward to seeing just what they will do next!

Class Spotlight on Junior Musical Theatre Years 5 & 6

Our Year 5 and 6 Musical Theatre students have been hard at work preparing and auditioning for their end of year shows, Madagascar and Seussical the Musical Jr. to be performed in Redlands Hall in Term 4. We are so proud of them and the quality of their auditions.

Year 5 have just completed their auditions for Madagascar and Year 6 will audition for Seussical the Musical this week.

Our Musical Theatre Students have been busy exploring new characters and the building blocks of Musical Theatre such as given circumstances and acting through song!

We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us and will be excited to have the Redlands community see their hard work in Term 4.

We are also very excited, to announce we are gearing up to our Redlands Theatresports competition on 11 April. We are busy learning games and getting into teams to compete against each other in a friendly competition for family and friends. Hosted by our fabulous Arts Captains Hallie and Sholto and held in the Music Hub on 11 April at 6:30pm, it’s going to be a lot of fun! We would love to see you there!

Housekeeping: We kindly ask that all parents and guardians be on time to the extra subject pick up locations after the classes finish.

You will find the various finishing times and locations for Junior School pick up on the Redlands Drama and Theatre Pulse page. If you are running late, your children(s) will be taken to OOSH and you will be charged accordingly.
