Wayside Chapel Visit 15 April

During the upcoming school holidays students in Yrs 10, 11 and 12 can elect to participate in a visit to Wayside Chapel in Potts Point. This is being planned for Monday 15 April. The Wayside Chapel’s School Education Program provides a unique opportunity for high school students to gain insight into the issues facing people living on and around the streets and the way in which Wayside provides vital support within the community.

This visit will serve as another practical way students can meet their HSC and IB CAS Service commitments.

Junior School Mentoring

Secondary students in Yrs 9 to 11 are encouraged to sign up for mentoring in the Junior School Maths or Reading clubs. These after school, academic support programs run on Wednesday afternoons during Terms 2 and 3. Secondary students are paired with a Junior student who, through weekly one to one mentoring, will develop confidence and ability. Senior students will be provided with some training in mentoring so that they have the confidence and awareness needed for the role.

Maths Mentor Training – Wednesday 27 March at 3.30 – 4.30pm in L2.5
Reading Mentor Training – Wednesday 3rd April at 3.30 – 4.30pm in L2.5

Mentors will need to attend the training but in the event of a clash with other activities they may attend on either session. All of the reading or maths materials required on a week to week basis will be provided by the teachers from the Junior School who will always be on hand for support. The most important aspect of this Service activity is consistent, regular weekly attendance as the Junior School buddy is depending on you.
