Lunchtime Concerts

It’s been so exciting to see students participate and take advantage of our Wednesday Lunchtime Concerts on the Senior Campus, in which Dr Jeremy Eskenazi helps provide performance craft feedback and accompaniment for students in a relaxed and positive space. We encourage students to email Dr Eskenazi if they are interested in performing, or just to come along with their lunch and bring a friend if they want to listen!

Junior Choir performance of Mulga Bill’s Bicycle with Musgrove Opera

Junior Choir with its 121 choristers has an exciting opportunity to participate in Musgrove Opera’s performance of Mulga Bill’s Bicycle, with over 180 young singers from schools including Kambala, The Kings School, John Colet School and Ascham School as the culmination of the 2024 Children’s Opera Project. The young singers fill the exciting surrounds of The Concourse Concert Hall in Chatswood alongside a stellar cast led by soprano, Brianna Louwen on Tuesday 9 April.

Musgrove Opera produces contemporary opera that is fun, fresh and engaging from its base in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 2018 by Lachlan Massey, Artistic Director, the company has performed its signature adaptations of stories such as Pinocchio!, Hansel and Gretel and Max and Moritz to packed houses at The Concourse, the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room and on tour. Banjo Paterson’s delightful poem, Mulga Bill’s Bicycle, has been delighting readers since its first publication in The Sydney Mail in 1896. Now, Mulga Bill has a back story (and a few good tunes) in a new adaptation composed and conducted by Lachlan Massey.

Musgrove Opera’s Artistic Director, Lachlan Massey, says I’ve loved Mulga Bill’s Bicycle for a long time…it’s a highly rhythmic text full of percussive oomph! Finding the right musical setting for Mulga Bill was like trying to pair cheese and chocolate…when it matches it’s brilliant, but it takes a long time to find the right combination of flavours! I’m thrilled that our new Children’s Opera project will bring together hundreds of school children to form the children’s chorus who are truly the stars of the show.”

Come watch Junior Choir perform as part of this amazing performance!

AMEB – Certificate of Distinction

Redlands has just been awarded a Certificate of Distinction for the Top 10 results in 2023 as Most Outstanding Accredited School. This amazing result, which we also achieved in 2020 and 2021, is a testament to diligence  and application that our students put in, with the support of our Music Tutor team, that allows them to achieve their best.

In particular, I would like to thank our Resident Associate Artist, Dr Jeremy Eskenazi, for his extensive work in accompaniment and performance craft with the students involved, as well as our Junior School Music Administrator, Jacqueline McGlade, for her superlative administration and support of students on the day of their exams here at Redlands.

Congratulations to all AMEB 2023 students who enrolled in an exam last year!
