Year 9 and 10 Japanese Global Connection Day with Japanese High School in Karuizawa

Reflections from Year 9 student, Lucy Goodsall

On Tuesday 13 February, we had an online Zoom session with Kazekoshi High School in Japan. We were extremely excited for this new experience and to learn about their school life and hobbies. To prepare, we revised content from the last two years to be able to easily say a self-introduction and have smooth communication in Japanese. Furthermore, it was such an authentic experience! It was nerve-wracking speaking in Japanese with Japanese students. However, as the conversations progressed, it became much easier. Learning about the lives and hobbies of the Kazekoshi students and the cultural differences and similarities was an awesome experience. We also enjoyed watching a Japanese calligraphy demonstration done using traditional Japanese materials. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience, and we are looking forward to our follow up session in few weeks time.
