Year 9

Tutor Time This Week

This week, students have spent time looking inward and reflecting on their journey at Redlands so far. These activities are an excellent touch point for students, a way for them to explicitly and mindfully consider what they have achieved (not just in an academic sense) and where they would like to see themselves grow. They have participated in two activities:

1. Redlands UP Project: Capturing a ‘moment in time’ via video, to reflect back on and to see how their thoughts, ideas, ambitions and dreams change as they grow into young adults. Films will be shared at the Valedictory Dinner in Year 12!

2. Writing a Letter to Your Future Self: a powerful practice that invites self-reflection, goal-setting, and personal growth, allowing students to capture the essence of who they are today and providing a glimpse into the person they aspire to become.

Year 9 Tour Leaders

On Wednesday 22 November, we welcomed over 200 prospective parents to tour the school. Yr 9 students were chosen to work in pairs to lead these tours, sharing with our guests what the Redlands values mean to them, what activities they are involved in and what their personal journey at Redlands has been. These students also explained to prospective parents the how they navigate the Senior Campus and the history of the buildings. These students deserve a huge congratulations – they led with engaging positivity, representing the School and themselves with pride, while answering a range of questions with huge smiles. Redlands Dance Academy Concert

An enormous congratulations goes out to the Yr 9 students who took part in the Redlands Dance Academy Performances last week. The dedication, hard work and tenacity that is involved in learning to dance a range of styles and genres was on full display. It was wonderful to witness the growth in the dancers’ skill and the joy and passion that exuded from all on stage. A special congratulations goes to Yr 9 dance superstar Dante Minassian. Dante will be leaving us at the end of the year to pursue his passion and talent as a Ballet dancer at the Australian Ballet School. We wish him all the very best for every success in the future.

Yr 9 Christmas Challenge

In Week 5, Yr 9 participated in an experience project where we were challenged to improve the Christmas experience for people who struggle to enjoy the holiday season. One of the student devised pitches was around the concept of gift boxes for women at Bayside Women’s Shelter. While children are typically the sole focus at Christmas time, we wanted to let women know that we see them and that they too are deserving of some luxuries.

We have been confronted by the recent stories and shocking statistics in the media about the number of women who experience domestic violence and abuse. This is an issue that impacts everyone, from every socio-economic background, every cultural and linguistic group and every age. We want to play some small part in acknowledging the situation and turn feeling helpless about it into feeling empowered to act.

To deliver on this project, we are asking for help from the Redlands community. We are asking you to donate so we can create our carefully curated gift boxes and deliver them to women at Bayside. Our boxes will include some of the essentials and some special items to make these women feel valued and provide them with gifts that they most likely wouldn’t be able to buy for themselves.

Redlands will collect the funds on our behalf and then we will use the money to create the gift boxes we have devised. We will then personally deliver the boxes to Bayside.

With thanks,

Yr 9 Redlands students
