Year 8

STEAM Project

The STEAM project is a two-day event held next Monday and Tuesday on Level 2 of the Redlands Learning Hub. The theme this year is From Waste to Worth – How can we Transform and Reuse Waste for a Sustainable Future?

The start to the day will begin with a guest speaker, Jo Taranto who will be talking to the students around four themes (Plastic Waste, Fast Fashion/Textiles, eWaste and food waste) and their impact on society, as well as some solutions that have been implemented.

Students will be working through the Design Thinking Process with the help and guidance of their tutor as well as Year 10 students who have volunteered to teach a lesson as well as being mentors for the younger students.

Leading up to the STEAM events, we will be hosting a Waste Audit with the student volunteers sorting, weighing and recording waste data.

Projects like this present a wonderful opportunity for students to examine real-world issues and apply some of the skills that they have learned throughout the year in the classroom. They also present the challenge of working collaboratively with members of the Tutor group to design and communicate a potential solution to a real-world issue.

I look forward to seeing what Year 8 produces from this project next week!

Students Living Redlands Values
