Year 7

Examinations are Done and Dusted – It’s Back to Lessons and Learning:

This week, Yr 7 were back in the classroom, engaging once again in valuable learning. Having successfully moved through their first ever Secondary School examinations, much of the material explored now in lessons will be based around building key knowledge and transferable skills to ensure students are in a confident position to tackle their subjects next year. It is important that Yr 7 stay focused and keep working effectively until the end of term, so they get most benefit from this important classroom time.

In Tutor time, we will be continuing to explore the key habits that make for a successful student, while also turning our attention to reflecting on the year that was. Tutors will be engaging students in identifying their strengths and their shortfalls and challenging them to consider how to continue a trajectory of growth into Yr 8.

On Monday, we gathered as a cohort for an assembly to reiterate the importance of being respectful in all that we do and consciously working to build a culture of kindness and compassion in the School. Assistant Dean of Students, Ms Matthews, took Yr 7 through the new Redlands Code of Conduct, outlining clearly the behaviours expected of students and helping them to see how to best embody the School’s values of honesty, respect, responsibility, compassion, fairness and moral courage. Students were then broken into smaller groups of around 10 and tasked with noting down how they would like people to think of their cohort moving forwards and then brainstorming the types of behaviours and actions they can take individually and as a group to foster a culture of kindness and compassion in the School.

It was a beneficial assembly and the exercise gave students a chance to reflect on their own behaviours and values and consider how they can keep helping to build a safe, respectful and caring community within the School through their daily actions.

Yr 7 Theatresports Strikes Again!

The Yr 7 Theatresports team have done it again! On Monday evening, our Yr 7 team competed against nine schools at St Patrick’s School in the Semi-Finals of the Theatresports Schools Challenge and placed Second. This result means that they now have the opportunity to perform at the Grand Final. Making it to the Grand Finals is a testament to their passion and skill and a fantastic achievement for our young improvisers. Congratulations once again to Sienna de Saxe, Fergus Kerr, Charlie Li, Clementine Roumanoff and Mackenzie Willis. Thank you also to their Theatresports tutor, Amber Virtue, for doing such an outstanding job in training our students.

Next week, in our Year Assembly, Yr 7 will be treated to an impromptu performance from the Theatresports team, and we look forward to seeing their skills in action!
