House Debating
During Tutor on Wednesday, Yr 8 representatives of the Dumolo and Roseby house debated the topic ‘That the NSW government’s initiative to ban mobile phones in NSW schools from Term 4 2023 will not be effective in improving students’ learning and social development.’
This is a fantastic topic given the current landscape and debate occurring with regards to technology in the classroom. Both teams presented compelling arguments about self-management, the difficulties in controlling all associated technologies and if these measures are preparing students for the workplace.
Our Year 11 Adjudicator, spoke very highly of the quality of both sides, however, ultimately awarded the debate to the Dumolo team who argued for the ineffectiveness of the ban.
Geography Excursion
Next week, on Thursday 31 August, Year 8 will be embarking on a Geography field trip, in line with their current unit Water in the World. The focus of the excursion will be about understanding the water management strategies used in our local area and how to undertake effective geographic fieldwork.
Year 8 students will travel from Redlands to either Manly Dam or Bantry Bay at 8:20am and return for normal sport at 2:20pm. Key information has been distributed in Geography classes and students are encouraged to seek the advice of their teacher if anything is unclear about the plan for the day.
