Year 11
Summer Holidays for Yr 11s
We are marching towards the end of this year, summer is on its way and the Christmas holidays stretch out longingly in front of us. We hope our boys and girls will enjoy this time to kick back, relax and unwind after finishing their first set of Yr 12 assessments or IAs this term. The summer holidays can also offer the perfect time to get ahead and to prepare for their progress through Yr 12, just like doing pre-training sessions for a big marathon. There is no need to run out of steam in the first 200 metres, but it is good timing to get the basics in place; to establish the habit of snack study (eg. Pomodoro Time Technique), to get familiar with the syllabus and assessment schedules for each subject, to develop good eating and sleeping patterns, to find some places where one enjoys studying, to form a study group with friends who share the same subject. Hopefully, by the time the marathon starts, their minds will be sharp and ready with motivation and focus.
2018 Kirby Derby
As mentioned in the other sections of Note Day, congratulations to Lindsay McNeil, Lachlan van der Pluijm, Chloe Woodward and Isabel Binnekamp who won the Kirby Derby Mooting Grand Final last week.
Thank You
I would like to thank all of the House Captains – Poppi Kent, Lachlan van der Pluijm, Edward Bush, Rebecca Faurby, Madeline Bates, Nicholas Armstrong, Hajo van der Tang and Bronte Vanderfield – for assisting with the Yr 7 2019 Orientation Day earlier this week. Their warm smiles, kind approach, encouraging words and personal tips were definitely appreciated by those nervous young students and their parents.
Design and Technology Fashion Exhibition
On Tuesday evening, a number of Yr 11 students were involved in the Redlands annual Design and Technology Fashion Exhibition. Many of them showcased the garments they have designed as part of their coursework. A special thanks to Rowan Drew and Annalena Rechlin who hosted the event.
Matthew Talbot Christmas Collection
Many of our boys and girls have made great efforts and volunteered themselves for numerous Service and fundraising events throughout this year. Their kind actions reflect their understanding on how significant one’s contribution can be to those less fortunate. This year, Yr 11 will donate to Matthew Talbot for their Christmas Appeal, an organisation many of them have helped serve breakfast to every Monday morning. This collection involves donating new socks, jocks and toiletries for the homeless clients of the Hostel. It is a simple and meaningful way for the Redlands community to support and care for others in need. Thank you to all who have already made their contributions.
