Secondary Sport

As we lead into this weekend’s ISA Semi-Finals it has been great to see a resurgence in the number of students completing Representative Sports, we have a large number of teams this week participating in the Semi-Finals across Football, Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Tennis. I thought this week it would be nice to dive into the old adage of winning vs team play the value of both. Both play vital roles in the development of teenagers in sports, each offering distinct benefits. Winning instills a sense of accomplishment, boosting teenagers’ self-esteem and motivation. It teaches them the value of setting goals, working hard and repairing the rewards of their efforts. It can inspire a competitive spirit that drives them to improve their skills and achieve even greater heights. On the other hand, teamwork is equally crucial. Participation alone in team sports teaches all about collaboration, communication and the importance of interdependence. They learn how to support and rely on their teammates, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. This experience can translate to valuable life skills, helping students excel in academic and professional settings where teamwork is often required.

Balancing the two concepts is essential. While winning can motivate teenagers, placing too much emphasis on it may lead to undue stress, anxiety and an unhealthy obsession with victory. prioritising teamwork helps students develop social skills, empathy and resilience in the face of challenges, even when they don’t emerge as winners. Encouraging students to participate in sport with a holistic approach that values both winning and teamwork ensures that the students derive a well-rounded and enriching experience from their involvement.

‘Values hold the team together, provide stability for the team to grow upon, measure the team’s performance, give direction and guidance and attract like-minded people.’

Bus Transport

When travelling on Redlands transport the Redlands school rules are in place and students should be always upholding the values of the school:

  • Have good behaviour, safe behaviour and appropriate language at all times.
  • Follow the driver (and supervising staff) instructions at all times.
  • Obey the transport rules and regulations at all times (seat belts must be worn at all times).
  • Leave the bus how they found it (no rubbish, no mess).

Students who fail to meet the standards of the above will face school disciplinary action.

Congratulations to the students who were named in the team of the week for Round 10! We have now finished all regular season rounds of the ISA Football season and we are thrilled to announce that 12 out of a possible 15 teams have progressed through to the semi-finals this Saturday 12 August! It has been a fantastic season for our Football teams across both the Boys and Girls Football programs. With our Football teams being competitive across the board, we are hoping to see a number of teams through to the finals next Saturday 19 August. A special mention is the 15B Boys Football team who have finished top in their division and have progressed straight through to the Final.

The fixtures for the Semi-Finals are available on the Redlands Pulse fixtures page and on your individual student calendar. Best of luck to the teams competing in the Semi-Finals on Saturday!

With the Junior Girls team finishing in 1st place, they have propelled themselves into a great position to have the best chance of making it through to the Final as they face Central Coast Grammar School this Saturday in the Semi-Final. The 1st Girls will be playing against Oxley College this Saturday in the Semi-Final. Having just played against Oxley College in Round 10 and finishing with a 2-2 draw, the Redlands girls should be feeling confident about their chances this Saturday.

The fixture details for the Semi-Finals can be found on Redlands Pulse and on your individual student calendar. Best of luck to our Hockey teams!

Rugby

Saturday’s fixture saw the closure of round games for the 2023 ISA season.

A season that forced growth and built resilience across all players and coaching staff involved. It was this love for our sport that proposed the first combined teams allowing for strong competition week to week. Through injuries, defeats, and moments of doubt, you all emerged with even greater determination, embodying the true heart of a rugby player.

Congratulations to each player for their commitment, self-improvement, and resilience that have shaped this season into an unforgettable chapter in our rugby story at Redlands.

Our 15’s side have qualified for the Semi-Finals this Saturday 12 August.

The schedule for our 15s is as follows:

10.00am – Hassall Park, St Ives.

We would appreciate all the support on the sidelines!

Excitingly, we look forward to the End of Season Dinner on Saturday the 16 of September. Book now by clicking the below image:
