Junior Sport
Welcome to Term 3, we hope you and your family enjoyed the holidays. We had a large number of Junior School students involved in Snowsports over the break, participating in the Redlands Cup and Sydney Interschools, and it was great to hear that our students were great ambassadors for the school on and off the snow. Thank you to our Junior School teachers and staff who assisted over the 10 days. We wish those students who progress to State Interschools the best of luck in their preparation. A full report by MIss Steer can be found in the Snowsports section of Note Day.
We have a very busy term with the Winter Sport season for Rugby and Football wrapping up in 3 weeks, our Year 5&6 girls AFL season commencing this week before we transition to pre-season Summer Sport skills for Mixed Basketball, Touch Football, Girls Basketball and Tennis.
Last week all Junior School families would have received a detailed note outlining the term ahead for both Representative Sport and Non-Representative Sport. The information and links within this note will assist you over the next 10 weeks so please make this your first reference for any questions you may have. The notification also contained a second document being a reminder of our established guidelines that support the management of all visitors to our campus for sport. Your review of this document as well as the respect and support of these guidelines are appreciated.
We are privileged and proud to be able to host our community, along with visiting School communities, on our Junior Campus for many of our home sporting fixtures. As we finish our representative Winter Sports fixtures in the coming weeks, please be reminded of the established guidelines that support the management of all visitors to our campus on Saturdays before, during and after matches.
These guidelines are as follows:
- Entry and exit to the school oval for Football matches is via the oval gate on Murdoch St. There is no access to the School via any entrance from Allister St.
- Parking in surrounding streets should not impact our neighbours’ properties. Please do not park across driveways and keep noise to a minimum if you are arriving for one of the first matches.
- There are no dogs/pets permitted onsite.
- Playground equipment and climbing frames are not to be used on Saturday mornings per the signage.
- When you arrive onsite, please move to the Piazza which is designated for spectators. Restroom facilities are also located on this side of the campus.
- The playing surface is reserved for the players, coaching staff, medical staff and referees only.
- The area adjacent to the basketball hoops is reserved for the two arriving teams to warm up. Your respect and support of these guidelines are appreciated.
Looking ahead to Term 4 when we commence Basketball and will host home matches in Dunnet Hall or on Redlands House Courts, please note the guidelines below that are in place on match days:
- Entry to Dunnet Hall and or Redlands House Courts for Basketball is via Allister St only.
- Please consider our neighbours when entering and exiting Dunnet Hall by not bouncing basketballs outside on the path and not parking across private property, double parking, etc.
- There are no spectators permitted inside Redlands House courts due to the run-off areas and court boundary lines being in close proximity to each other. Spectators may view the matches from the boundary fence on Allister St.
- Spectators inside Dunnet Hall may sit on the ‘spectator side’ of the court, which is on the side of the court closest to the foyer. The opposite side of the hall is reserved only for players, coaching staff and scorers.
Term 3 Upcoming Dates
For Term 3 upcoming dates and key events these can be viewed by selecting this link.
Representative Sports- Saturday Morning Match Wear
Just a reminder for all families who represent Redlands in Saturday sport, only Redlands Sports Uniforms and match day kit is to be worn. Each family should own either a school tracksuit and or a fleece that they can wear over the top of their playing kit if they are cold. If your child feels the cold, they may play in their fleece if their match allows it.
Any incorrect item will now be confiscated as all students have received the same message.
Wednesday Sport Inability to Train
If your child has an injury that prevents them from training, please send through an email to Junior Sport juniorsport@redlands.nsw.edu.au requesting they ‘sit out’ of training for that particular session. We can then forward this to the relevant external coaching staff. Where applicable, please include when they can return to normal training so coaches are aware of this. That way coaching staff are aware of an injury that prevents them from participating at the venue but also allows us to be aware of periods where they are medically required to ‘sit out’.
Sport Calendar
The sport calendar for Term 3 onwards is available online on Junior School Sport Page. You can also view it by selecting here; 2023 JS Sport Calendar
Representative Sport Student Absence
If students are absent on match day, parents are required to complete this online absence form. This will allow your responses to be passed on electronically to your child’s coach efficiently and at short notice. The Student Absence link can also be found on the Junior School Sport Page on Redlands Pulse.
Please don’t hesitate to view our Sport Information page on Redlands Pulse if you have any questions pertaining to Sport.
