Foundation Day

Last Friday, all Yr 7 and Yr 11 students attended the Foundation Day Assembly to learn about and honour the history of their School. This year, several students participated in the event and we welcomed Redlands Alumni Merilyn Sleigh from the Class of 1964 to share her experience as a student at Redlands at that time and her career post Redlands.

Thank you to Isla Wickham, Charli Waterland, Ava Taylor, Flynn Kieran, Thomas Reeves and Clara Wall for meeting our special guests and ushering everyone into Redlands Hall. Thank you to the Advanced String Ensemble for their incredible performance, conducted by Sholto Mirrlees-Black. Reflection on Defence of Sydney Monument Service

Oolan Margon and Jack Stevens were honoured to join Ms Sabine Partington at the 2023 Defence of Sydney Service in Wk 6. Both students were exceptional representatives of the Yr 11 cohort and made the most of this opportunity. Please see Jack’s reflection below.

“Last week, I received the privilege of being able to attend the 2023 Defence of Sydney Service commemorating the 81st anniversary of the night that ‘war came to Sydney’ at the Defence of Sydney Monument on North Head, Manly. This was a very touching and emotional event for me, as I learned about the 21 young sailors who were killed that night, following an attack from a Japanese ‘midget-submarine’. The most moving moment of the day for me was listening to a speech from a student from another school, who recounted the events of that fateful night from the first-person perspective of one of the sailors killed in the attack. This speech was ended with the devastating information that this sailor was due to go on leave from the navy the next day. From listening to this speech, as well as others from military personnel, my already exceptionally high respect for our veterans has increased. It is crucial that we pay the upmost respect to our veterans and current armed forces, as many of them have given the biggest sacrifice, and gave their lives to ensure we can live in the world we live in today.”

Winter Woolies Appeal

This a friendly reminder to please raid your closets and share the warmth as part of the Year 12 Winter Woolies Appeal. Gather gently used or new coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, and hats that you no longer need. Every piece of Winter Clothing donated will help someone stay snug during the cold months ahead. Year 12 are asked to bring all Winter items down to the Student Services Centre foyer and place in the yellow bin, before the end of Week 9.

As part of the Winter Woolies Appeal, next Thursday morning, before school, there will be a delightful Hot Chocolate stand right outside the front gate run by our Year 12 Winter Woolies Group Leaders. This heart-warming initiative aims to support the organization, Rough Edges. Rough Edges is a dedicated Australian-based charity that extends a helping hand to vulnerable and marginalized individuals, particularly those grappling with homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges. Their unwavering commitment revolves around assisting those living on the streets in the Kings Cross area of Sydney. Indulge in the comforting embrace of our delectable Hot Chocolates. For just $4.00, savour the velvety richness complemented by a heavenly swirl of cream and a delightful marshmallow. Alternatively, you can enjoy this delightful treat for $3.50 without cream, ensuring there’s an option for everyone’s taste.

Don’t miss this opportunity to join the Winter Woolies Appeal, where a simple cup of Hot Chocolate, or the donation of a blanket becomes a catalyst for positive change and support for the homeless community. Let’s come together, share warmth, and make a difference in the lives of individuals facing tremendous challenges.

We are so thankful for all of your donations and you are still able to sign up and join the challenge.

To join or donate

We would love to see everyone involved through participating, supporting or donating! Many thanks for the ongoing support!
