Secondary School Athletics Carnival

It was wonderful to see Yr 12 so involved at last Thursday’s Secondary School Athletics Carnival at Sydney Olympic Park. It was a special carnival for Yr 12 as this was their last ever Athletics Carnival. It was so heartwarming to see all of Yr 12 supporting one another at their events and cherishing the connections they have with each other.

Some highlights from the carnival include:

  • Emilie Bessell and Sebastien Griffith both winning the Champion of Champions 100m.
  • Hugo McKay taking out the Senior Boy’s High Jump in a unicorn onesie.
  • The 18 Year Girls, locked arm in arm, racing the 100m wearing an array of superhero outfits including superwoman and spider man.
  • The McDouall Yr 12 Senior Boys Relay Team (Will Pearson, Keian Murphy, Lachlan Binnekamp, Sebastien Griffith)  running 46.1, 0.16 shy of the Senior Boys Relay Record.
  • The Yr 12 Student relay, convincingly taking the win in the Staff Vs Students relay.
  • Sebastian Tang, dressed as Harry Potter, running the 200m with a broom between his legs.
  • Yr 12 running their lap of honor down the straight of the 100m as a cohort, including our School Captain Josie Simpson, who was pushed by Allegra Brown in a wheelchair.

Congratulations to the following Yr 12 students who took out the Age Champion and Runners Up Age Champion:

  • 17 Girls Age Champion and Senior Divisional Age Champion – Emilie Bessell (McDouall)
  • 18 Girls Age Champion – Maddie d’Almeida (Cowper)
  • 18 Girls Runners Up Age Champion – Maddie Barwise (Dumolo)
  • 18 Boys Age Champion – Lachlan Binnekamp (McDouall)
  • 18 Boys Runners Up Age Champion – Hugo McKay (Cowper)

Special mention to our Cowper House Captains, Yasi Coletran and Joe Griffiths who led their House to victory.

Pockets and Blazer drop off

If a Yr 12 student is receiving a pocket for Winter Sport, they will need to bring their blazer in on Friday 23 June (last day of school) and hand their blazers in at a set-up blazer collection in the quad. HSC students will need to drop their blazers off with their pocket at 12:30 and IB students will need to drop their blazer off at the start of lunch, before they head home to prepare for the Yr 12 Formal. Pockets will be distributed to Yr 12 students early next week.

Winter Woolies Appeal

This a friendly reminder to please raid your closets and share the warmth as part of the Yr 12 Winter Woolies Appeal. Gather gently used or new coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, and hats that you no longer need. Every piece of Winter Clothing donated will help someone stay snug during the cold months ahead. Yr 12 are asked to bring all Winter items down to the Student Services Centre foyer and place in the yellow bin, before the end of Week 9.

As part of the Winter Woolies Appeal, next Thursday morning. there will be a delightful Hot Chocolate stand right outside the front gate run by our Yr 12 Winter Woolies Group Leaders. This heartwarming initiative aims to support the organization, Rough Edges. Rough Edges is a dedicated Australian-based charity that extends a helping hand to vulnerable and marginalized individuals, particularly those grappling with homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges. Their unwavering commitment revolves around assisting those living on the streets in the Kings Cross area of Sydney. Indulge in the comforting embrace of our delectable Hot Chocolates. For just $4.00, savor the velvety richness complemented by a heavenly swirl of cream and a delightful marshmallow. Alternatively, you can enjoy this delightful treat for $3.50 without cream, ensuring there’s an option for everyone’s taste.

Don’t miss this opportunity to join the Winter Woolies Appeal, where a simple cup of Hot Chocolate, or the donation of a blanket,  becomes a catalyst for positive change and support for the homeless community. Let’s come together, share warmth, and make a difference in the lives of individuals facing tremendous challenges.
