Reconciliation Week
This week, students were offered various opportunities to continue learning about and building awareness of Reconciliation Week. On Monday, there was an optional presentation at lunch by Sharon Brindley, owner of Jala Jala Treats, a First Nations owned company. Following the short talk about ethical purchasing and running of her business, students were shown the beginning of the documentary In My Blood it Runs. The second half of the movie was being shown Thursday during lunch.
On Wednesday, all Yr 11 and 12 students engaged in a Welcome to Country by David Barnett, from the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council. Alfie Leach and Antonia Morgan then spoke about their experiences in Arnhem Land, and what reconciliation means to them. David Barnett asked all students to consider the one race we should all acknowledge and work to support, the human race. He also told students that the indigenous communities are not reconciling with the current population of Australians as people living today are not responsible for the past. However, all people are working together to mend the impact of the past and working together to always respect and love one another moving forward.
Alfie’s message included advice for how you can connect to country on a daily basis. He said,
“One way to connect to country is to just stop and take a minute to absorb everything around you. It is extraordinary how fulfilling and stress relieving this can be, especially at the end of a long day. In Sydney we often look at occurrences in nature as inconvenient to the strict timetable we have in our life. For instance, we look at rain as a disturbance to our daily lives – maybe our bus runs late or our bags get wet. We look at it in a bad light Instead of looking at rain as the nurturer and replenisher of the country that surround us and how without that rain we couldn’t grow our crops, drink our water, keep our soil together and in a dramatic sense, society and civilisation would be obsolete without it. Just take a minute and slow down to absorb and appreciate the captivating land around you.”
Antonia’s message was about what reconciliation means to her. She shared,
” Reconciliation is the epitome of what is means to strive towards unity in our country. I believe that it represents a day to confront the past, our history and the wrongdoings of those that came before us and that continue today whilst dedicating ourselves to paving the way for a greater future in which voices are heard, diversity is embraced, and equality is reached. The theme for this year’s reconciliation week is ‘be a voice for generations’. It means to open our eyes and challenge our perspectives in order to see change in our world. It means, at the core of all things, to ensure the voices of each individual are heard equally, loudly, and clearly. This theme fosters the change we wish to see in the future, a future we hope is near.”
Careers Expo Excursion
The Careers Expo excursion gave Year 11 an opportunity to ask questions to help them make informed choices about their paths after school. The Expo provided resources and information for tertiary courses, career and employment options, study strategies, gap years and more.

Balmoral Burn Recap
Last Sunday, Redlands had three teams compete in the Balmoral Burn, raising awareness for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. In a little under two weeks, our three Redlands teams fundraised over $1000, which was a great effort! Each of our runners left nothing on the finish line, giving their absolute all as they reached the top of the very steep Awaba Street. Congratulations to the Yr 11 Team: Isaac Brooks, Conor Petersen, Hamish Campbell and Flynn Kieran for their massive effort in preparing and completing this challenging run!
Overall, our Redlands Senior Boys team finished 4th and Senior Girls team finished 9th. Great results overall! Redlands had the 5th fastest time on the day out of 23 schools.
Year 12 Winter Woolies Appeal
As the temperature continues to drop, we are reminded of those, who may not have the resources to stay cozy during the Winter season. But fear not, because together, we can make a difference and bring warmth to those in need.
As part of the Year 12 ‘Give back’ initiative, the Winter Woollies Appeal, aims to collect and distribute warm clothing and blankets to individuals and families who may be facing the harsh realities of Winter.
Please raid your closets and share the warmth! Gather gently used or new coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves, and hats that you no longer need. Every piece you donate will help someone stay snug during the cold months ahead. Please bring all items down to the Student Services Centre foyer and place in the yellow bin, before the end of Week 9.
Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

All students participating will be required to get changed and then head directly to the Undercroft for a group warm-up which will begin at 3:30pm.
