Australian Composer Incursion (Yrs 11 & 12)

This Tuesday we were delighted to host Sydney Conservatorium Head of Composition Dr Daniel Rojas to work with our senior students. His dexterity as a Classical concert pianist and composer with diverse cultural influences provided an inspiring sounding board for our Year 12 composers.  His composition Baile y Fuego (‘Dance and fire’) is one of our set analytical works and this experience was insightful for all who attended.

Life Ready, Industry Ready

Last night members of the Senior Academic Music team were delighted to be invited to attend premiere performances of new Australian Composition works, presented by Redlands Alumni at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Aaron Drake and Eden Borrie (Class of 2022) were both among the seven students who were offered early entry to their Music courses last year, and as always we are thrilled to follow how the seeds planted in our Music program continue to flourish well beyond the Redlands gates.

Guests of the Mayor of North Sydney

On Friday, students in the Advanced String Ensemble performed at the North Sydney Council Chambers at the invitation of Mayor Zoe Baker. The event was an Australian Citizenship Ceremony, and it was a deeply moving experience to be part of this special day for over 60 new Australian citizens. We thank our students for their willingness to be part of this wonderful occasion.

Spotlight on Yr 5 Music Instrumental Program

Last week at the Yr 5 Music Instrumental Program (MIP) the students had the opportunity to rehearse as the Combined Band working on their ensemble skills under the expert leadership of our conductor Mr Xu (Assistant Head of Bands) to keep in time, watch for expression and dynamics. At Redlands we are priviliged to have this vehicle to outwork and apply our curriculum Music learnings, and it is evident that the students enjoyed playing alongside their peers and hearing the different sections of the band in the Combined session!
