Senior Music Festival tickets on sale TOMORROW!
Tickets for this year’s Senior Music Festival on the Concert Hall stage of he Concourse go on sale TOMORROW! A Pulse notice and letter to families will share both the link and booking tips that could see one lucky student dubbed the ‘greatest ticket seller’ for 2023 (with a bespoke SMF2023 Hoodie among the coveted prizes!)
The excitement was palpable as the Friends of Music helped distribute Festival T-shirts to students during rehearsals yesterday, and we are grateful for their support behind the scenes with costumes, catering and other wonderful initiatives towards this and other great Music opportunities at Redlands.
Our LIKE A VARIATION theme for 2023 is a twist on the similarly named radio segment. This fantastic night is not just for members of our P-12 Redlands community, but for music lovers and trivia buffs of all ages! Spread the word, bring your friends and book your tickets for what will be another sell-out show.

Junior Music Festival – Thursday 3 August

Speaking of FESTIVALS!? Hot on the heels of our Senior Music Festival is our equally exciting Junior school night of nights – the Junior Music Festival to be held in Term 3. Get those ball gowns and tuxedos ready for ‘A Night with the Stars’! Students are already working hard in their curriculum and cocurricular lessons and rehearsals to make it a night to remember. Featuring the biggest hits from stage and screen, it will be a memorable celebration which includes every single Junior School student. Please save the date and ticketing details will be released in due course.
Junior Open Morning
Well done to all the musicians from Ms Sywak’s Junior Chamber Ensemble, Junior Voices and our pianists Yucong (Melody) Jin and Zhengyou (Yolanda) Bai for your performances to our prospective families. Thank you to Ms McGlade, Ms Roberts and Dr Eskenazi for their work with our performers also.
Australian Composer Incursion (Yrs 11 & 12)
This coming Tuesday we are delighted to host Sydney Conservatorium lecturer and Australian Composer Dr Daniel Rojas to work with our senior students as they drill down on one of his compositions Baile y Fuego (Dance and Fire) as one of their set works of study for their courses. Dr Rojas will also provide one on one feedback on the students’ own compositions during lunch time – another great voice in the mix, alongside their fortnightly sessions with own resident composer, Dr Nick Russoniello. We are fortunate to be resourced by such extraordinary compositional expertise at Redlands and students’ compositions are developing with nuance, dexterity and flair. Later this year will see the Composition Competition opened for all students, with selected works being studio produced for release as part of the annual Redlands EP.
SSO Excursion (Yr 9)
Last Thursday evening, Yr 9 Elective Music students headed to the Opera House and later buzzed about the magnificent experience created for them by concert pianist Stephen Hough as he performed Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Particularly delighted with their seat allocation in the choir stalls, they felt were the best seats in the house, right amidst the action! As a department, were touched by several students going out of their way to vocalise their gratitude for this opportunity. We know that the experience will greatly enrich their ongoing work around the Romantic Music Period across the rest of the term, and their holistic understanding of the development of Western Music tonality and traditions, within sociohistorical contexts.
