From The Principal

Yesterday we hosted our 2023 Platinum Lunch which honours our alumni who attended Redlands at least 50 years ago. It was a wonderful occasion as 101 of these graduates were in attendance sharing their memories, reflections and stories from their time at Redlands.

The guest speaker was Redlander, Barbara Wellesley AM (Class of 1955), who has a long and distinguished career aimed at helping to improve the lives of children and young people, including being co-founder and National Director of Good Beginnings Australia. Her many accomplishments saw her being awarded Membership of the Order of Australia for her national and international work with and for children.

In her reflections on her time at Redlands, Ms Wellesley spoke of the strength of her relationships with staff and fellow students, being taught the importance of values such as respect and fairness and how she was always encouraged to back herself and follow her dreams which eventually led to such a distinguished and rewarding career.

What struck me about Ms Wellesley’s reflections was that if we spoke to our current students about what they value most about their Redlands education, they would share many of the same reflections Ms Wellesley did. We have a special culture here at Redlands, a culture that has been developed and nourished since our founding 139 years ago and continues to thrive today.

I am so pleased to see our connections with our alumni community continue to strengthen and look forward to hearing more of their stories and insights about their time at Redlands at various events in the months ahead.
