Secondary Sport

Welcome back to Term 2, I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break, there was a lot happening over the holidays with a number of winter sport training sessions and activities. As we begin the Winter Sport Season it is a timely reminder for students and parents to ensure they are following the expectations of Redlands Sport.

  • Uniforms – students are to only wear the Redlands Sports uniform when training and during the games, students who chose to not wear the correct uniform will result in school disciplinary action.
  • Trainings – all Redlands sport trainings are compulsory, students must attend all sessions in order to be eligible to play and for pockets and awards.
  • Games – weekly fixtures are available on Redlands Pulse, games are compulsory for all students, please ensure you leave ample time for traffic, parking and arriving, players need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their start time.
  • Code of Conduct – is available on Redlands Pulse, all players, coaches and spectators are to follow the code of conduct. Any breaches will result in school disciplinary action. We treat all players, officials and spectators with respect.

We are very much looking forward to the season ahead! Best of luck for round 1 to all players.

Athletics

Congratulations to Isaac Brooks (Yr 11), Amber Kusano (Yr 9), Elizabeth Whelan (Yr 9) and Olivia Law (Yr 7) who all competed during the holidays at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships held at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre.

  • Isaac finished 14th in the U18 Boys 800m & 26th in the U18 Boys 1500m
  • Amber finished 12th in the U16 Girls 800m
  • Elizabeth finished 5th in the U15 Girls Hammer throw
  • Olivia finished 11th in the U14 Girls 800m and 8th in the U13 Girls 1500m

Basketball

A huge congratulations to Redlands Renae Garlepp (Director of Basketball Coaching) and Emilie Bessell (Girls Basketball Captain) who won a silver medal for NSW Metro at the U18 Australian Basketball Championships in Brisbane over the holidays.

Fitness Centre

We have been reviewing the Fitness Centre for the last few weeks, with a number of changes being made, please note there will be some information sent out tomorrow and available on Redlands Pulse – Secondary School Sport Fitness Centre.

Football

Congratulations to our 1st Boys Football squad who competed in the SACS Cup over the Easter Holiday break. The team had some very competitive matches throughout the tournament and came away as winners of the SACS Plate with a 4-1 win over Cranbrook in the final!

We hope the Football community is looking forward to Round 1 of the ISA competition this Saturday 29 April. The details for the fixtures can be found on Redlands Pulse under the weekly fixtures tab. A reminder to make the Redlands App or Redlands Pulse your first point of contact for any Football related information for the upcoming season.

Hockey

A reminder that we will commence Round 1 of the ISA Hockey Season this Saturday 29 April. The details for the fixtures can be found on Redlands Pulse under the weekly fixtures tab. With both teams playing in home fixtures at Barker College this Saturday, the Friends of Hockey have a morning tea planned at the season opener this Saturday so welcome all members of the Hockey community to come along in what should be a great morning for Redlands Hockey.

Rugby

Thank you to all who participated in Holiday sessions, this was a great opportunity to improve individual skill as we lead into season kick off.

We look forward to Round 1 beginning this weekend with an away fixture at Central Coast Grammar School. (Bus details for Round 1 TBC via email)

A reminder for the remainder of the Rugby season, training is now at Primrose Park. 

To action this week:

  • Ensure you have your mouthguard for Round 1
  • Ensure you have full Redlands playing uniform ahead of Round 1
  • Download Redlands APP, this should be your first point of contact for information.

We also wish Coach Piper Duck good luck for her Semi Final this weekend in Super W series. We hope Piper can lead the Waratahs women into their 6th consecutive Grand Final. If you are interested in supporting, please see below for tickets!

Swimming

Congratulations to Xander Halfen (Yr 11) and Amelie Swann (Yr 8) who competed at the 2023 Australian Age Championships in Queensland over the holidays.

  • Amelie competed in the U13 Girls 50m Butterfly and was also part of the 4x50m Freestyle club relay swimming Personal Best times in both events.
  • Xander competed in the 16 Boys 100m Freestyle, 16 Boys 100m Backstroke, 16 Boys 50m Freestyle, 16 Boys 100m Backstroke as well as the 4x50m Freestyle Club Relay and the 4x50m Medley Club relay in which he finished 3rd!  

Tennis

Welcome to Term 2 Winter Tennis players! We hope you all have had a restful break and ready for the start of the season! Please make sure to check your emails for details on the relevant competitions and training for the term. A reminder also fixtures will be accessible on Redlands Pulse or the student calendar and no longer emailed directly.

Training will commence this Thursday 29 April and then begin as usual on Tuesday mornings as well from Week 2 and continue to Week 9.

Term 2 Games Begin!

Thursday 27 April

  • Regular training resumes this week
  • School bus 2.30pm to Warringah Aquatic Centre. – Bus departing from Military Road (School side)

Fixture details:

Students will be allocated into teams and advised of their specific game times. 

Friday 28 April:

  • Open Boys – 7:30pm
  • Open Girls Blue – 7:00pm
  • Open Girls White – 7:30pm

Monday 1 May:

  • Inter Boys – 7:20pm & 8:20pm
  • Inter Girls – 8:50pm


General Sport Information

Wet Weather

While every effort will be made to provide alternative training options, if sport needs to be cancelled due to wet weather a notification will be posted on the Redlands Sport Twitter page (@RedlandsSport) and an email will be sent out to both students and parents. This includes morning & afternoon training along with weekend fixtures.

Thursday afternoon sport training– wet weather arrangements (Year 8-12)
Students in Year 8-12 who are dismissed at the end of Period 5 are required to go directly home. 
Thursday afternoon sport training – wet weather arrangements (Year 7)
In the event that Year 7 sport is cancelled on Thursday afternoon, students will remain at school until 3.20pm and participate in sport-based activities.

Fixtures

All student training and fixture details will be available to families under My Schedule on Redlands Pulse. Additionally, the weekly Fixtures (The Redlands Rhino) can be found on the Secondary School Sport page on Redlands Pulse from Wednesday each week. Please ensure you check Redlands Pulse Friday afternoon to ensure you have the latest fixture information.

Uniform

The Redlands sports uniform should be worn to all trainings and matches (students are not permitted to wear any non-Redlands branded clothing). In the event of inclement weather students should wear their Redlands fleece or sports tracksuit. 

Sport Absences

Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for their son/daughter to be excused. 

Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture.

Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures.

Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards and result in school disciplinary action.
