Community Update
Welcome back. The School has quickly sprung back to life with a number of significant student and community events taking place as this short week has unfolded.
ANZAC Day was commemorated this week across the School with several moving services that featured first-hand experiences of those in the service of our country along with some personal and equally impassioned student reflections. Lieutenant Colonel Peter Van de Peer shared his personal experiences of active duty and what ANZAC Day means to him during the Secondary School ANZAC Day service that included a focus on the use and importance of messaging and communication channels to make positive and selfless change. As a school community we gave thanks to the many service men and women who gave their lives, and paused to reflect on those who have served, and are still serving, in times of both peace and conflict.
Redlands is owned and operated by SCECGS (Sydney Church of England Coeducational Grammar School) Redlands Limited; a public company limited by guarantee. We are fortunate to have a dedicated, passionate and diversely experienced Board who effectively represent and promote the interests of the School. The Board is responsible for setting and reviewing the strategic direction of the School as well as monitoring the implementation of that strategy by management. The Board meets each month and works closely to support the School Executive and management. Last night the Annual General Meeting of Redlands took place where our Chair of the School Board, Principal and Chief Financial Officer presented a positive and engaging account of our progress, achievements and accounts. More information on the governance of Redlands can be found here.
A reminder to save the date for the Redlands Gala Ball being held on Saturday 12 August at the Fullerton Hotel in the city. We look forward to welcoming parents and carers, staff, alumni and friends to this highly anticipated event that includes a three-course dinner with fine wine, live entertainment, online and live auctions and raffles, along with a live band. Thank you to the passionate organising committee for pulling this extraordinary event together and to members of our wider community for your support in the donation of prizes and sponsorship for this major fundraising event. Tickets will be on sale shortly.
It’s always a pleasure to hear what our well-travelled alumni community have been up to, and this week we feature a postcard from Abby Goodwin (RL 2019) who reports in from New York where she is studying Strategic Design and Management specialising in producing and directing. For more information on Abby’s amazing work along with other Alumni and Foundation Office news, please visit our Foundation section.
I remain grateful for the continued guidance and support our community provides and, as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.
Kindest regards
